I was given an infraction a week or so ago [and before any of you jump on the gun about not being allowed to complain about infractions given and what not, as I'm not so read on]. The infraction was for thread bumping. I can now see why the infraction was given; though I still don't think I was spamming, as the thread would have helped a lot of users, if I had gained some good replies (obviously I know the mods don't have enough time to take it as they find it). Either way, the other day when I logged in, I was given a message asking me whether I would like to buy premium membership. It says these are the benefits and so on, then I see that one of the benefits is being allowed to bump your own threads!!!!!!!!!!!This is (illicit profanity here) rediculous! It is considered SPAM when a member (potentially one who contributes high quality posts) is not allowed to bump threads, but it's perfectly fine to advertise that you are allowed to effectively spam, if you pay for the right to do so!? All the moderator's posts about this being a free nonprofit forum where people are commited to prevent SPAM seem extremely shallow now. Also, what the hell is with the bump thread button is you are not allowed to bump threads? For example there is now that I look at the thread a small button under my post a button with an up arrow saying bump, which oddly disappears when you look at others' posts. Finally, I would like to know why : this is from @ViciousSummer's infractions sticky Why would anyone want to bump a thread that's not theirs' that is surely called posting. Now that my little rant about hypocricy and pettiness is over, what do people think of my views?
In a few words: money, itrader, free items/perks. An Example Let me copy one offer: DP Love + Free Things Back with a new offer Please leave any review as long as its positive i could care less how long it is. http://forums.digitalpoint.con/ showthread.php?=###### Copy and past to your browser to hide referrer What you get in return: The product itself itrader (DP) Plus you can have a whole page on my blog .............. yes one Whole Page ------------------------ Many pay to post posting jobs are to bump threads and keep threads on first page of sales category. If you notice we have fewer pay to post offers now that thread post order has changed in buy sell change.
You can bump your thread without breaking the rules and without being a premium member... just use the "Bump" link.
I agree in parts 1. No one would want to bump a thread that's not theirs' that is surely called posting. 2. some infractions are petty (in my opinion the mods and admins should drop infractions on smaller things and concentrate on bigger issues)
@LookingforVPS, I aggree with you entirely, the mods should be concentrating more on preventing proper spam and scams Also @Digitalpoint, thanks very much, that cleared up a question for me.
Do you know how hard MODs work? Just use Spy feature of DP and check what MODs are doing. I was checking at before few hour and was seeing that MODs were Deleting few posts, moving threads, locking threads, and many more work. They are humans and they also can make mistake SOMETIMES.
Technically, you cannot bump somebody else thread. That act itself is an oxymoron but in DP oxymoronity is a standard practice and that is why getting infraction for posting in somebody else thread is subject to punishment mostly if Mods for some reason hate your guts I can hear loud kissing sound and… hell, I wanna share with you your pleasant experience but I can’t because in some cases these so called “mistakes†will trigger Ban and that should never happen regardless if Mods are working hard or seeping on a Starbuck. fastreplies
