Wikipedia always in the top.

I always wondered, why wikipedia.org always in the top position of the search engines, especially position on google.
I don't see them doing submit to social bookmarking sites, they also don't put the signature in each forum.
wikipedia.org is the precious in the eyes of search engine?

 

Yes wikipedia is the biggest encyclopedia of net that is way it always comes in first. Google always go there first and fetch the search query.

Probably because wikipedia has the most content on the net? Hence google gives it a bit more weightage.

Yes google often puts wikipedia at the top and for good reason! For a lot of searches wikipedia often gives the best information and as it is edited by many, it usually has all of the information you need on that topic. (okay so not ALL but there is usually a lot of useful stuff). And google also knows that there is no spam on wikipedia so can easily give their pages higher rankings.

 

Wikipedia is there to give people knowledge, not to sell anything. Google considers that one of the #1 reasons people search the internet--to get information and Wikipedia's aim seems to be 100% information. I'd rather see honest sites pop up on the top when I'm looking for information on something--not someone trying to sell me something. If I'm looking to buy something I usually check out Amazon or key in "buy" with whatever it is.

Yes, i am really do not know how the authority of the site that could rank very high in the eye of google. All search term are always high. I think it is due to the site is the public owned by any organization.

I enjoy reading any topic on wikipedia. Because it provides very deep research. So many many people go for wikipedia. It is the best Encyclopedia.

All of it's external links are nofollow - but all it's internal links are followed - and anchor texts. It's constantly boosting it's own PR and position in serps by linking it's own pages to each other.
