I transfered my domain from dreamhost to 1and1.com and moved the site to hostgator. Starting June 8, I dropped my number of visitors VERY drastically. I use Wordpress stats, and I went from 402 on 6/6 to 297 on 6/7 and then to 7 on 6/8 and now 9 on 6/9 I have no idea what I could have done to have my numbers drop so dramatically. I moved the files directly from the old host to the new one, exported the sql database, imported it in to the new one and everything worked fine. I started moving the site on June 2. The domain transfer was finalized late Monday night. Can everyone see my site http://www.farmtownhero.com OK?? I worry there are DNS problems, as I am using OpenDNS. Thoughts, suggestions? I was typically making around $30 a month, plenty to pay hosting, a few new domains, etc. But now, I am making 0 Help!
where did you get all the visits? maybe your site drop from the serp, reason why you lost your visitors.
I got this error when trying to access your site: Site Temporarily Unavailable We apologize for the inconvenience. Please contact the webmaster/ tech support immediately to have them rectify this. error id: "bad_httpd_conf"
Certain hosts, like mine (Stream101), publish your website to directories automatically. Once a customer leaves our company, their links are removed from the directories we submitted them to. I'm not sure if dreamhost does anything like that, but my advice for you..."1and1, GET UP AND RUN!"
Yes, many hosting providers offer automatic SEO, backlinks and Directory. They want happy customer. Why would I switch to someone else when my site goes well?
The majority of my visitors come from google. I *think* I am still on the front page of google for "farm town" I have check logged out of google but maybe not.
this once happened to me too. but that was because i download my back up incorrectly and loss some pages. have you lost some of your pages?
perhaps this is why your serp down and you lost your visitors. CMIIW, google will ban or remove your site if your site had an error/down often.
Apparently 1and1 never got the update DNS setting when I got the domain transfer finalized from dreamhost. The domain was still pointing at dreamhost. Crap!!!
wow...thats bad...google indexes so fast nowadays. I guess your traffic will come back soon. Well I hope. Bets of luck

If you have a Google Webmasters account, you can check and see if G is reporting any error accessing your site. Did you not do a proper test of that account before transferring the domain to point to your new host? Usually a good hosting would give you a temporary URL or an IP address where you can preview your site and make sure the port-over has been done properly. I'm sure you've read this already? http://wiki.dreamhost.com/index.php/Bad_httpd_conf
Thinks were working for a few days before the domain transfer finalized. The new host just didn't get the correct DNS setting, and I was dumb enough to not think about that. It's totally my fault and something I could have minimized. Part of the problem is the site was working fine for me, or so I thought...
