Agreed, iTrader is not a particularly thorough litmus. However, when someone who has 30 posts, all of which are are "PM me info" "Send me the URL pls", tend to dismiss them, because they are an unknown quantity.

I agree with your last tip. :)

    Hi Foggy,

Your post is very sensible and I certainly can't blame you for going "hmmm." However, the market value of the site is well within the realm of what I'm asking. For 10 years, this domain has been the authoritative educational resource in its category. Now that I've done the work to change it into a commercial site and develop relationships with well-known artists, its income-earning potential has changed significantly. What exactly that potential is is a matter of debate. For a passive Adsense-monger, it is worth a year or two's adsense income plus the value of the domain name. For a brick-and-mortar gallery looking for an accompanying website, it is worth well into the hundreds of thousands. The reason I say that is because other commercial sites in the same category consistently pay $3 - $5 per click (about $60 - $70 per day) for the words the site ranks on the first page of Google for, and the items on the site sell for such a high price that two or three sales could easily make up my asking price. This is a turnkey multi-million dollar business.

Again, an individual who has no knowledge of selling art should not buy this site (and you clearly don't). A person who owns a gallery or otherwise has experience with wealthy clientele is my target buyer, for they stand to make well beyond the sale price in the first year.

I have already received one offer that is near my asking price; however, I am not convinced of the merit of any offer until I have either a signed letter of intent or at least a good telephone conversation with the interested party.

*To those who have asked me to PM them, please understand that I will not send information to anyone who does not PM me first and tell me a bit about their interest in this kind of site.

Can you send me a PM with details? Not keen on art stuff, but I may be able to trade this to an art gallery if it really is so great. *sends PM*

I would have to agree with you on this, I don't know what it is with these buyers sometimes, they only think that every site is worth 12 x Monthly revenue from Adsense. Irritating! Yes it may be true for Myspace, directories or arcades but sites can have much more value besides revenue from CPC.

I take it you've put a concrete offer in then? :)

Richard Branson can't read a balance sheet, the owner of myspace.com has never used myspace.com, the owner of the UK's biggest medical business has no formal knowledge in anything medical or pharamaceutical related. So, if your assumption about me knowing nothing about art or wealthy clientele (sic) is true... of what relevance is that?

Business is business irrespective of what sector it's in. They all follow the same accounting rules and the same laws. The different knowledge required for different businesses is in the running of those businesses, not in the owning of them. But, you already know all that ;)

Past earnings (Adsense or otherwise) only determine price because of their ability to predict future earnings. And, it's future earnings buyers are interested in. Myspace.com didn't sell for hundreds of millions of dollars because of what it was earning but because of what it could earn. And that's exactly what you're trying to sell on. Except that, unlike myspace, you aren't making a good business case but relying on someone in the "right" business automatically recognising that it has "potential". In other words, don't value it based on what it has, value it based on what your skills can add to it! Good luck with that. Do bear in mind though that it's never a good idea to be publicly dismissive of anyone posting in your Site for Sale thread. The ones who spend the money are less likely the empty wallet big mouths who agree with your price and think it's fantastic value. It's more likely to be the ones who question your valuation ;)

Do you have written agreements with all those artists allowing you to sell their work?

How many visitors/day do you have? The name doesn't mean much, but the traffic does. At least for me. I can't invest more than 200K for this opportunity, so if it's not enought, then just ignore my post.
