Was considering picking up some .us addresses and was wondering if there are any particular problems or concerns associated with these. Have any one had any success with .us?
There are a few successful .us domains such as Imageshack. However you are best off with .com as they are the most popular and seem to get the best ranking in search engines.
I would prefer .com but it is getting tough to pick-up some half-way decent url's that are not a mile long.
Not just the US, but as I cannot get the .com I want I am looking for the next best option, .us .net .info whatever it may be.
if you are more on geo targeting, .US is perfect for targeting traffic from us compare to .com which more on worldwide.
I think its depend on your target market, If you are targeting US its advisable to use .us but even if you use .com its still ok because there are lots of .com site got good success.
The USA would be my primary target market, but not exclusively. Thanks everyone, I might give it a try.
It is strongly recommended that you can use .com domains which are really helpful in the optimization process of the websites over the main search engines.
If your aim is to get popularity for your site and you want it to appear worldwide then you should choose ".com" for this domain extension is more commercialized. On the other hand, you use ".us" if you want to be locally popular or advertised within US.
well i would prefer .com as its universal. And if due to unavailability of .com you may go to .net rather .us. In many cases i have found that .us gives a problem in the later stages while indexing and optimizing to your site as its country specific.
.com and .net were my first choices, as they always are, but there is just nothing close to the url I want available, except in .us.
A web design company in the US that I helped to startup used a .us domain for it's main url - which we found to be ok for the situation since we wanted a very short domain name (we did a four digit domain name with .us extension, example: xxxx.us) It worked out well and never caused any problems with SEO - in fact that damn site is still up, even though the company is no longer around, and I've been trying to knock it out of the local search rankings with a new local company, but am finding it to be difficult So, in that case, the .us domain name worked out well and the fact that it sits stoutly on the first page of Google for competitive local search phrases even long after company disbanded says a lot I think But of course .com is always my first choice
If you have no choice then try some change in url, and if you think you want to use the same url to sport your keyword and you are in US then you should use .us it will be effective too.
.us is fine, it works same as .com in SEO. Just it is hard to be memories by visitor, that's the only problem
I will sugest you .com because as a matter of fact if you are willing to promote the .us or any other countries domain , you might face some rejection in submitting article sites directories, etc. in addition to that every visitor recognises .com as a premium quality domain.
