I bought a proxysite here recently. For what it cost me I made my money back. As of today my host informed me I am violating Terms of Service with the proxy site in my account. I have a dedicated server with a larger US hosting company and it seems these type sites will be further derailed from existing as the feds are clamping down. Buyer Beware!!!!!!!!!! Peace
You need to get your facts straight before you run around blurting stuff like this out, you should have read your web host terms and conditions, proxy websites have operated with perfect safety within the law for years and to my knowledge - nothing has changed. Just because you are apparently too lazy to read your web hosts terms and conditions you are implying that law enforcement agencies are somehow clamping down? I've never read so much garbage in my life. I run dozens of proxy websites and I have never run into any problems with ANY authorities & even if they did I would laugh back at them. You should also have quite a good chat with your web host, you're paying them for a dedicated server correct? Well then it should be nothing to do with them what you have on it, as long as its not illegal. Most web hosts primarily disallow proxy websites because they consume so much CPU and other server resources, this is usually well documented in most sales threads. Also, what on earth are you complaining about if you have made the money back? Jeez, no pleasing some people. Oh, and for anyone thinking so, I never sold the site to him.
I do have my facts straight...had you read you would see it says "it seems" this is not a statement of fact it is merely conjecture. If I have to read every TOS in existence for all of my varied pursuits I would be doing nothing but reading TOS. Or perhaps I read the TOS a while ago and forgot about the proxy bit...I'm sure you have all your TOS memorized. So if I cheat you out of money it would be fine?? PS you did sell me a site...,but after your warm response and apparent ease with people cheating others of their money.... it will be the last. Nice way to open mouth insert foot you get a 10 for that !!!!!
Yeah man relax, you should of gone over the TOS thats all hehehe. The same thing happened to me but I dont blame anyone but myself... i never went over the TOS I never do tbh unless its something important like google adsense which id never wanna get kicked out of haha. GL with your future endeavors.
Yes one on me lol.....shit happens. ....but I am not going to allow shit to happen to others.... No problems..just a fair warning is all I wanted to give others.
I had a proxy that I had to sell because it used 20% of the system resources... And jesus guys - calm it!
Yeah when i sold my proxies i made sure the guy checked his host and searched for any special proxy laws... most of the time all that is required is CTRL+F "proxy" in the TOS page
I never said anything about reading every TOS but when it comes to something as important as a dedicated server where you may be paying hundreds out per month, as I do, I certainly like to know what will be prohibited. Oh, and please tell me, if you say you earnt the money back you spent on the site, how exactly were you cheated out of anything? And yes, I have sold you an unrelated website in the past and I'll be happy not to sell you anything again. Dont try to tarnish my reputation when I am simply defending the field I have a lot of interest in, I regularly sell proxy websites on webmaster forums and I have never had a single complaint. But alas, from the presentation of your prior posts I will probably just get another rambling at.
Same thing happen to me but I made some money when I had it up then sold it a week later for double the price I bought it so it was no biggie.
You had an 'unlimited' usage on this server? Seen this before that a webhost will sell 'unlimited/unmetered bandwidth'. End of day any webhost selling a service with a dedicated server is buying the bandwidth. There is no law making proxies illegal. If you would have bought e.g. 100mb/s from level3 directly and bought your own server you would have no problems at all. ->
I had a proxy website too at hostgator and one week ago my account was suspended, until i promised them that i will delete the cgi proxy.
you got closed because proxy scripts eat a lot of server resources ... probably you own a shared hosting account .
For dedicated, I would say look into LayeredTech, they allow proxies as well as legal adult material.
I had a proxy site and my old host banned it too.. cuz i didn't read tos.. but I sold the proxy site for more then I had in it, so all is good
Very few shared or VPN web hosting providers will accept proxy websites, they do take up a phenominal amount of resources, well over the normal amount a server can usually cope with. You would be hard pressed to find a web host that specifically supports proxies, when I first started out with proxy websites my dual xeon dedicated server was crashing all the time but after a few (hundred) tweaks its now pretty stable.
