How do you keep track of all your usernames and passwords?

    Hello everyone,

I was just wondering, how everyone manages all their passwords for the various social bookmarking accounts, Wordpress blogs, hosting accounts, email accounts, that you setup? Do you store all the usernames and passwords in various spreadsheets? Do you store them at various email accounts?

I got usernames and passwords all over the place. With that said, I desperately need to find a better way to organize them. So if you could offer some suggestions, it be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Gordon

That's easy. I bought a flash drive and I made folders for all of the different categores. For example, I have a "Social Bookmarking" folder, a "Forums" folder, a "Web 2.0" (Hubpages, Squidoo, Twitter, Blogger, etc.) folder, an "Article Directories" folder, etc.

In each folder, I started a blank notepad document where I list the name of each site, the URL, my password, and other pertinent info about the site so I can remember it all.

You can also use Delicious if you want to keep everything online. They have an entry box for notes as well.

I try to do this as much as possible. I also rotate a few passwords so if I forget one for a certain site/program, I know it's probably one of only about four or five.

    Hi Gordon,

If you don´t want to get crazy with all your accounts, usernames and passwords I would recommend you a software called Password King. This professional program will manage all your links, passwords,ID´s and other details. I couldn´t imagine being without it anymore. It saves me a ton of time and effort. If you are interested shot me a PM and I´ll send it to you for FREE;-)

    Regards,

Personally i use a program called roboform, it just adds a toolbar to your browser. With the trial you can save your top 15 most used password and usernames. You can also save in your details for quick form filling in.
Hope this helps, just use google to find it!

I use a rotating password, something like $$**!%a where the ** is initials of the site im using (obviously this isn't my actual rotating password) - this way each site is secure if one password is compromised, I need no third party software or no written records

I really don't like wordpress admin's automated password system I check my e-mail each time to log in lol. For other sites I just have two passwords, one for public accounts other for private, if a hacker knew my private password I would be in a bad position

I'm in the paper and pen crowd, imo it is the safest way to keep everything organized.

I keep an excel sheet with all my passwords.
All the sites are grouped according to genre: social bookmarking, hosting, emails, web 2.0 etc.

So I always know where to look for a password that I don't remember, and this way I find it very fast.

It is very easy. Using some tools help us to manage them. I am using Roboform, it is free and easy to use.

I wouldn't be able to survive without Roboform to be honest.

Firefox has a great password management system as well.

I use the LastPass addon for Firefox. It stores your passwords in the cloud, can generate random passwords, fill forms, store secure notes and much more. Oh yes, it's free.
