I own ug2.com and around a month ago I changed the sites script. When i changed over I lost a fair bit of my site but kept most urls the same.

My search engine traffic dropped day by day I thought this may have been normal and would pick back up but it hasnt :(
Now im down to a few searches per day instread of 200 searches from google and around 100 from yahoo.

Is there a way I can get my site back on track? Im not ranking anywhere really anymore only for UG2 or UG2 games.

would love some help on this.

i have just seen ur website url structure is ok, but if ur SE traffic is getting down this simply indicates that website is now not performing on the keywords it was initially performing on......for this start good amount of link building on keywords on which you wants ur website to perform .....other reason is website loading time is too much......rather putting big image for each game on home page put small images with good game description on home page.....

it depend on what you changed and how many you changed. Manbe it will return if you rollback, but maybe it will not.

The reason I changed scripts is because the script i had was very poor and not many features. The new script is much more powerful and has traffic trading abilities which is actually keeping the sites traffic up only from referrers.

Before i had the script changed I had a funny section which contained around 300 pages..All these pages and the funny section was lost and i will not be puttin it back up.

All the url structure stayed the same. I actually added like 300 new pages/games.

All the pages titles did chage though and Im guessing this is most likely the cause

One reason that your website went down is that no SEO work done on it. You should start SEO work properly like bookmarks, classifieds, SE submissions, Blog posting giving a link of your website below. These practices would definitely work for you. It may take some time to get stable.

I would sit tight for a bit while new pages get indexed. FYI, that is likely the best looking site in that demographic I have seen. Markup looks pretty solid as well.

    Hello GamesPond,

Give it some time. When you change platforms or scripts or doing massive changes on your site there is big chance that to happen.

Relax and give it some time ..

GamesPond, I have inspected your site. The results are as follows:
+ The speed is allright - 0.65 seconds to respond. Nice design, btw.
    1. You have 4 repetitions of the same word in your title tag - too spammy.
    2. You have way too many internal links on pages. On main page I stopped counting on ~200, check also the <name="gameslist"> form, crowded with internal links. Still maybe fine.
    3. You have lots of content that Google counts as duplicate. Check query site:ug2.com - gives 7 000 results, while site:ug2.com/& gives 129 results. This is an indicator that a lot of pages are not taken into account.
Do you copy the content from _www.bestgamesplay.com_ or is it yours?
Here might be the reason: Google suddenly dis-assign you from a sort of 'originator' mark of the content.
    The code is clean.

Minor issues: no robots.txt defined, no pages for error codes.
I would advise you to register the site in Google WT, so Google will help you himself.

Same here. I went from 330 or so per day to a whopping 7 today. I did transfer the site to a new host and transfer the domain, but really, that should affect me should it?

I still rank on the first page for farm town

    I am at www.farmtownhero.com

Google has changed the algorithms.....they are focusing more on long tailed key words......
Have read in other forums about sites having big drops..........also one site jumped very high over night....

thanks I will review my site, amount of internal links, title tags and see what happens.

@Goarge the duplicate conent is most likely from a game pack I uploaded, I am in the process of changing most of the game descriptions that where the same as everyone elses.. Either that or the site you mentioned has copied my descriptions.

Well what I know for your sites lowering in the ranking results is due to the script changes. as a metter of fact it is well known that the status of any web site depends upon the links coming to it and the content in the web page. hence if you are not altering any link to your page but you are changing the script with the keywords and descriptions , the google crawler will make the chenges in your sites results after visting it.
do more promtion in order to get your old position. Cheeers!!

I think google traffic will change too if you have modify your content but if it is just a script of the theme, i think it is no problem. In your case, you better try to build more backlink and doing more seo in order to get your site back full of function.

    Maybe :p

By the way, GamesPond, there is an important issue I forgot to mention: when you changed the script, you might get your url's representation/normalization changed. Was: site.com/game+quake, became: site.com/game%2Bquake

So for the visitor its the same urls, but google may consider them as different urls. So all your old backlinks will go to a trashbin. Check this out.

Well actually you rank No.1 in google for "ug2".

Did you recover back your original traffic or even got an increase?

Don't build backlinks for now they won't help you if your site isn't optimized for the keywords you are targeting, focus on your on-site part for a while. Get the titles and descriptions right and then continue to market the site. If you ranked No.1 for different keywords with your existing link popularity, either something changed on your site or someone out ranked you which I highly doubt because you have an exact match domain name and we all now what a great boost they receive in search engines.

I would fix the on-site part, mainly keywords and descriptions. Remove any duplicate URLs and make redirects via 301 so that google can see all your pages within one site, no matter what of the actual URL might be. That's a permanent fix for all your existing pages and future ones, and it takes no more than 15 minutes to do.

After that continue to build backlinks and advertise.

Another advice is to re-make your entire information architetcure. Keep the URLs and internal pages the same way if they rank for a specific keyword that's driving you traffic everyday, and try to minimize number of menu items so that the users can easily navigate your site. It's kinda confusing seeing 200 different menu items in your footer.

You have your internal links and then suddenly link exchanges. Note that. Fix your information architecture and your footer expecically. Make the site accessible and search engine optimized. Then market it.
