207,825 pageviews | 15,297 visits | 40,273 impressions... only AUD$1.83 ($1.50 usd)

    Hi guys.

We have a social network for gay men in australia. 207,825 pageviews, 15,292 visits, 40,273 impressions and AUD$1.83 in adsense. The ads are placed on the top 5 pages, according to GA.

What am I doing wrong?

I think it's because the ads are not relevant. Instead of being related to "gay men in australia" , we have ads on how to get your MCTS certification, hotels in Australia and so forth. Even so, that's too little for that traffic, even if the ads are generic. Don't you think?

    Any ideas please?

    Thank you.

    Leo

Check your source code on a few pages first to make sure they match that of your code. In case of hackers or a mistake.

Also your not buying any traffic?

Code is fine, just double checked it. I'm happy with the keyword cost, the reason I'm not making any money is because of nobody clicks the ads.
do you guys reckon this is an ad position problem or relevance?

Either way, any tips on how to improve things?

    Many thanks!

That log in didn't work for me but I can see some ads within forum posts. Maybe try putting the first ad after the first or second post so that it's visible when you open the page without having to scroll.

I changed the password to guest123. Will try that.

Do you really think that from 40.000 impressions and only 3 clicks, is a problem of positioning the ads? Never thought it was that important.

I think ads above the fold usually do better (those shown before you have to scroll down).

Have you thought about adding an ad to the home page? I think just above the "What's New" section could be a good spot to try out. Just experiment with some different spots and/or colours to see what works... each site is different.

    :)

    will try it, thanks!

If anyone has any more advice on how to make the ads relevant? I mean, i'd like to see ads related to the website, which is "gay men australia", and not how to get your MCTS certification. Is this something that I can control or influence in any way?

    Thanks!
