Hi all Up uptil friday my netbook site (netbook-experience.com) was consistantly getting over a 100 referals from google a day. that might not sound like a lot but I'm proud of the side. Since Friday this has dropped to about 4 hits a day. Can anyone offer any advice as to why google has stopped sending me traffic all of a sudden. Many thanks John M
No, nobody can with only that to go on. What does it say in Google analytics or whatever tracking you use? Did your previous hits all come from one keyword? Have the hits to that stopped? Have you dropped position in serps? Have you lost some backlinks?
Hi All my hits can from a number of different keywords. What I have just noticed following your reply is that my site used to appear towards the top of page 1 of google when searching for how to install various applications on the Acer Aspire One. I now can't find my site in the same searches Cheers John
Hi john how old is your site and what strategy where you following to build backlinks to your website?
Start with small link building with keywords people used to found your site - no floods, you don´t want to be banned. About 2 months to get back to the top. Not more than that.
Hi all, thanks all for the replies, My site has been running since last August, Generally links are made from similar sites, forums and carnivals. I must admit that I haven't found out any new links for a while. If it makes a difference my PR hasn't changed at 2. On Friday I made a sponsored post from social spark (I occasionally do) could this have made a difference, eg has google penalized me or is it just coincidence? Thanks John
I don't believe its a post from social spark, were the pages that were getting a lot of traffic on the front page prior to losing traffic? If this is the case you need to do some internal linking to those pages within your site.
google did make a recent change to the algo... I have a site that was averaging 5-20 uniques on the weekends and I boosted after friday to about 60...anyone else notice this?
Google have recently done a bit of work on their algorithms in relation to keywords. They are now taking more notice of long tail keywords as a phrase instead of a collection of related words. This will affect a lot of website traffic as google begins to re-value websites based on there backlink anchor text and relation to the websites content.
Thanks Iain - wish I fully understood that. What does it mean for us bloggers will traffic return or will we have to do work on all past posts? Many thanks John M
I noticed a jump to more than twice my usual signup amounts on Friday...traffic has remained high since. I went and checked and we went to #1 on Friday for one of our best keywords.
