Doing something interesting with a directory?

I'm looking for interesting concepts, templates, services and mods relating to directories. If you have something interesting that you would like written about that is directory related then I'll blog about it for free on DirectorySpy.com.

No catch. Limit of 1 post per day, that's all. And I'll write the article as long as I deem necessary when I have the time.

I do reviews of blogs in my directory.

 

That's novel. I'll add that to my to do list!

 

On my directory I write reviews for each accepted site. This means that each listing is unique across the net thus boosting both the directory as well as the listed url's popularity. It takes time but it is worth it.

 

Not sure if it's really unique, but I haven't found anything like it yet while searching:

My directory is set up to serve both readers and webmasters.

1. It compiles nothing but links to articles, and I'll be launching a PR campaign (today actually) to promote to readers who want to find articles on various subjects without all of the business and sales pages that creep into search engine results.

2. It gives webmasters free one-way incoming deep links to any and all article pages on their websites.

There are so many dull sites out there, its worth focusing on the ones that are interesting!

Creativity is an interesting challenge. My angle is solving problems for myself and sharing them. e.g. the phpLD PR Mod that I released today.

I don't quite understand what http://www.mycontentwebsite.com/ is. It's unclear from the site. Could you explain?

 

It is a directory site targetting webmasters looking for content. It is different in that each listing which is written manually by us. That means that it is not only a directory of links but that each website listed has a neutral review to go along with it.

 

I have some free templates for "index script" mentioned above. You can get the free templates here. I have installed 2 of these. 1 on demo installation(link on download page), other one on directory seen by people(a little modified version of same index script).
Basically it's 1 template in different colors, whichever people may like.
And like the original script the colors etc. are all in style sheet making it easy to modify.

I recently also installed phpld for ad4business directory and designed the template with some mods from their forum and some I coded.
One of which is showing latest post on my blog title linked from my directory. (It gets updated as soon as I post on my blog.)
Shown under "updates, news, free stuff" on directory navigation.

Second one is showing all top level categories in the right column (directory navigation) so people can change between categories without having to return to home page all the time.
Haven't seen these 2 mods on other phpld installations, so may be if you like, you can post a review...

Well,

My Directory www.eBusiness-Directory.com is running a modified Indexu Script and a good few people have told me its the best looking directory they have seen.

I also added a VB ebusiness forum with custom Skin to try and add a bit of community spirit to the Directory.

Regular Links are free till the end of September and dont forget to upload your sites logo!
