You don't need to submit your sites to search engines. All you need is ONE link to each site on ANY page that is crawled/indexed. ONE. ON ANY PAGE on the internet.
Please remind me which Post Office dumps letters by the millions in a garbage bin just because it assumes that there is no value in our letters. mimika
In my experience, DMOZ is only worth it for cut throat niches where you're meant to hustle for every edge you can get your hands on. For smaller niches, don't sweat about it. Your relevant DMOZ category will be a low authority page, meaning that not only will you have to wait a long time for your site to be included in the directory, you will also have to wait even longer for Google to actually crawl your DMOZ link. On top of all that, the anchor text of a good DMOZ submission is most likely the domain name, so it won't affect the SERPs much. That should be your main focus: The SERPs. In my case changing title tags had a more profound effect on my SERPs than any other SEO tactic!
No, it is NOT Where is the proof? Can you provide any evidence that supports your statement? fastrepleis
Because web site will survive without 1 backlink and specially from DMOZ. Believing otherwise is as stupid as believing that you can sell snow to Eskimo. I hope you do not believe that the Internet will stop function if DMOZ ceased to exist? fastreplies
Of course a site will survive without it. I know of many sites that do very well without being listed there and will never be listed there. Still doesn't explain why it's worthless? Minimal effort to submit. Can result in a link and some traffic. More than worth the time involved to me. Your mileage may vary....
Read your own statement below Read my statement again One backlink won't make or break site and as far as survival of that site concern. One backlink from DMOZ is as worthless as single backlink from anywhere when it comes to gaining meaningful results as far as success of that site concern. AMRAY Directory is not listed in DMOZ and yet it doing better than all directories combined that listed in DMOZ. No link from DMOZ will change that. Now, will it? Satisfied? fastreplies
Are you then saying that getting listed in any directory is a waste of time and backlinks are useless, because if you are not saying that, surely back links are collected one at a time and one from DMOZ is as good, if not better, than one from anywhere else. If it is useful to get links, even one at a time, then how do you maintain DMOZ is worthless? Or are you simply trying to knock DMOZ?
Man, you said it. Only Magic Bullet is priceless anything less than that is worthless. Correct, one single backlink is worthless no matter where it’s coming from. If site manages to collect many backlinks from different sources then even more so one backlink from DMOZ is not going to make or break that site. Again, see AMRAY Directory So, here you have it. One single backlink from DMOZ is as worthless as one single backlink can be. If you wanna to prove me being wrong, then include AMRAY Directory in DMOZ index to learn how higher than page #1 AMRAY has it now in Google it can get. As a benchmark we will use free listing that puts AMRAY on page #1 and spot #1 and / or best free directory the same page #1 spot #5 to determine if link form DMOZ will do anything for AMRAY and if not, then as I said DMOZ link is worthless. You don't need my help for that because you (editors) are doing that very successfully for years now. fastreplies
I think he would sooner have the one and I don't edit in a directory for any value our listing gives to a site. DMOZ does NOT exist to give value nor is it interested in value or what PR iot might give, but thanks for telling us that backlinks are pretty useless, one must ask why bother with your directory? At least DMOZ has good kudos or people would not be whining why they can't get in and there would be an Amray section on here if anyone thought that worthwhile. Why don't you ask Sean for one to be added?
a VERY VERY interesting post! DMOZ does NOT exist to give value nor is it interested in value or what PR iot might give So it's not there to add that kind of worth to a site, so there is at least that At least DMOZ has good kudos or people would not be whining why they can't get in Well, it certainly did at one time, now it has old school hype brought about by bloggers looking for content... how many high end blogs are giving the ODP any KUDOs? Not many I can find, and I think I may know why by finishing your sentence... and there would be an Amray section on here if anyone thought that worthwhile. and by looking at who posted it... Anonymously There, we have a person claiming to be an editor that can't back it up dissing someone elses site. Certainly says a lot about the ODP, or at least it would had you ever really been an editor. Though to get back to the original question, is it worth it to submit? Of course it is... but ONLY if you are bothering with other free directories. If you are not, then it is worthless. As for it being only ONE link, that is not the case, that ONE link is cloned on dozens of other sites which is what the debate about it's worth should really be. According to the ODP, duplicate content is not worthy of being added, but they encourage duplicating their own content. Google also frowns highly upon duplicate content and they often penalize sites that contain it. (look, two sites with double standards, lol)
