I was looking for some domains today and Godaddy started suggesting .ca domain names - it's never done that before and you've never had the option to register a .ca domain through them. Can somebody tell me when that started happening? It's f'ing awesome for me as I don't have to register them through 10dollar.ca anymore (cheap domains, but horrible interface/support/service), but I didn't even get an email from Godaddy saying they have .ca domain registrations. I registered a handful of .ca's with godaddy (wohoo!).
yeah its about time, eh? as a godaddy user whats your opinion of their privacy registration through a proxy?
.CA is one of the most restricted extension of all extensions next to .CN. You need to be at least a Canadian citizen.
Waste of money. There's nothing to stop you from filling your domain registration with false information. One of my domains lists the north pole as my address, for example. .CA is restricted because they only want canadians or people who do business in Canada to use them. Makes sense to me. Just like most other country domain extensions you need to have some kind of presence there. I've lived in Canada my entire life, so it's not an issue for me, but it would be a pain for me to get a .BE, .JP, .SP or any other country's domain extension.
If I remember, GoDaddy has been offering .CA since about 2007... As far as the actual TLD, I would recommend going with NetFirms in the future since they throw in free whois privacy and are actualy a canadian company so you do get a lower rate.
