I always preferred AMD and will continue to do so. Many people say AMD is the best for gaming... Now when will I upgrade my PC......
All my x86 systems have always used AMD, except for my laptop (Intel Centrino). 68K and PPC would have been good options for the poll too. I first owned an Amiga, which was a great system, and for a while I had an iMac which pretty OK but decided to stick with Linux on AMD. I've had my Athlon XP 1800 for a long time and don't envisage upgrading any time soon. I just added more RAM which was all the speed increase I needed.
Currently, I am using AMD, you can't tell any difference, if feels so transparent, I think will just wait till the end of the year, since now the battle between Intel and AMD just has started, I think this is good for consumers
Intel has always giving me nothing else than problems so I moved to AMD and I'm not teenager nor running games, but a localhost server and plenty of word processing.
I use AMD but now the new Intel Core Duo 2 670 is fast with 20-60% (depends on test) than AMD FX 60, that means the price for AMD FX series will drop very fast; Intel Core Duo arhitecture is also hard overcloaking watch the market AM2 AMD socket is more marketing than performance, but AMD buy ATI so the GPU will be integrated in the X86 arhitecture, and will have GCPU, but NVDIA and INTEL knows that so... Also Intel is testing the GCPU technology for 2 years, maybe more.
i'm new here, but i'm confused. you guys are doing lots of comparisons. are you saying better in terms of performance (pure processing power), value (price to performance), compatibility to applications/games? i'd think unless you are a hardcore gamer or doing serious video rendering, a mid range PC using either processor is ok. -- i use a AMD sempron 2800, 1gb ram, abt 300gb of storage for my video work. an intel 1.1ghz 1gb ram, 80gb hard disk fujistsu lifebook when i'm out and abt, and a intel P3 1ghz celeron for other stuff. plus a bunch of legacy PCs to play mpg4 movies and music.
Intel had very good processors til Pentium III 500 MHz with 100 MHz FSB. but when they gone higher FSB they are not that good. and recently AMD had lauched great proccessor serise that intel cant beat. here there are some hardcore fans of AMD like Mystikmedia. he posted his PC config few days back. duel core dule optron, few GB RAM, some kickass ATI graphics, 10 HDD SATA Raid. and i sure he just can't think of duel core Xeon in place of his monster machine performence. in todays situation my vote goes for AMD.
well the new intel core 2 duo are smashing AMD, the board arent cheap nor the processores but still they are quite powerfull, and if you overclock them you will get even more performance, they are good overclokers.
i dunno. so does this debate actually result in a 'winner' ? i guess both platforms have their own merits, and it's really a matter of personal choice at the end of the day, isn't it? i guess the old argument was apple vs pc. and now it's getting more polarized along amd vs intel line. how do you guys feel about apple using intel chips in their computers?
