New York, June 3 (ANI): A female employee of Citibank was apparently fired from her job because her male colleagues found her 'too distracting'.

    More here: http://in.news.yahoo.com/139/20100603/888/twl-banker-sues-citigroup-after-she-was.html

If this incident would happen in any Muslim country then I am sure DP could be flooded by bashing Islam (old fashioned) saying Islam does not allow women to work or blah blah.

But I do not understand why this is happening in a ultra modern Western country ;)

More than likely, it is a frivolous lawsuit. Wrongful termination suits are very popular in the US, though I've never heard of being "Too Hot" as the proposed cause. Wall Street is full of excess and money, which draws hot looking chicks like bees to honey. In our new depressed work environment, many of those girls have had to look for work in new locations and aren't too happy about it. I guess the knife cuts both ways. A hot looking girl gets just about anything she wants in this country. Then again, people always question whether she got what she wanted based on her looks.

They got caught sending emails about it, last time I checked discrimination is not permitted in the US. Per the sensitivity training video we had to watch at our office, this wasn't behavior management should have taken.

CitiBank has a lot of money, so it's going to be sued no matter what it does. Most likely the young lady is just looking to take advantage of her looks to gain her "10 minutes of fame" and land a spot on The Apprentice or some other silly reality TV show. Or maybe she wants to feature in a "Girls of Citibank" spread for Hustler.

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII) prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin; Being "too attractive" wasn't listed, but I think it still applies.

Sorry if my posting sounded like a presumption of innocence as much as yours sounds like a presumption of guilt. I'm aware the laws have a legitimate reason for existing on our books. It doesn't change the fact that bullshit lawsuits of this nature make up a healthy chunk of the wrongful termination lawsuits. It is fairly easy to get a settlement from most employers just by announcing you are pursuing a path to sue. At 450$/hr, it is usually cheaper to settle immediately than fight it to the level of depositions, never mind an actual trial. All this ignores the actual merits of the claim, assuming there are any. Also, regarding the law, it too is bullshit. If the chick really was fired for being too hot, and her employer felt her distracting hotness was lowering productivity in his office, he should be able to fire her on the spot. It seems the only person laws like this truly benefit are attorneys.

Get real. Where are the white people in the NBA?

A large corporation which I used to work with had a policy of immediately settling any employee lawsuit under $250k.

I think those are called coaches. :p

"Like I told those other fellas, that girls my niece."

Obviously an opportunist cashing in on her "assets". Thank god America is filled with people like ServerUnion who rush to the aide of helpless victims like this poor girl. I'm sure I've already helped this girl at some point in the past my making cash donations directly to her thong.

Actually though you guys laugh, I can feel her pain about getting fired for being too sexy, cause it's happened to me before.

Oh sure, they cleverly hide their real motives. Age old ploy, they see how the opposite sex looks at you and pretty soon the boss starts to write you up for every little thing... "Employee is consistently late for work", "Individual fails to meet deadlines in a timely manner", "Employee visited multiple clients while under influence of alcohol", "Employee spent entire office petty cash fund in strip joint". Apparently no item is too small to escape notice when they're just out to get you.

Then they start to nitpick your expense reports... and ftr... you'll find that despite their petulant objections, the employee handbook where I was had NO prohibitions regarding use of company funds to pay prostitutes.

Anyway, those jealous bastards hounded me until I finally quit, cause it was apparent their envy was making them incapable of rational action. All I can say is I don't care if they beg me to return, that's the last time I ever go to work for the Southern Baptist Sunday School Board.

Truly a piece of ass(Excuse the vernacular Rebbecca). She should go back and get her job in 5 years from now when shes got crows feet, smile lines, and a fat ass. Maybe she was fired for arrogance, a personality trait I personally detest.
