Well, you could post your link on some forum asking how to get visitors, for example ;)

I have noticed, that with forums, if when people show up and they don't see activity, they don't stay. Talk to all your friends/family/companions online and have them signup and post, then post around. Continue to post daily. Depending on what the forum is about, it is easy to attract people. If you wanted to create a forum that had a lot of competition, it is hard to get going. Good luck.

To get your forum kickstarted without wanting to pay for them...hmm...

I suggest you make 10 usernames, either by yourself or amongst friends who will do the work for free, and once the forum gets kickstarted gradually withdraw them.
Alternatively, you could run a forum contest, where the person with the highest number of posts gets free advertising space on your forum for a period of a month or so. Or he gets sig and other privileges which optherwise have to be paid for.

You have a forum for web developers: that means specialized people:
    1. MOD the theme. You are using a default VB skin. Poeple who work in the business are picky, make sure you mod that theme and make it look unique.

    2. Post many threads. You have too many categories and zero threads in most of them. don't expect your members to start topics, they won't ;)

    3. make some post exchanges ... 2-3 a day for weeks to come. Start new threads daily and keep on promoting.

Some community management and development articles .. might find more info in them

    Best of luck ;)

Set up about 10 accounts and make questions on one a account, then answer them from other accounts. Thus simulating an active forum, and gradually you may get real members.

you need to offer incentives to peoples who join your forum at start . For example Every 10th visitor get Free Domain name or give Free ebook to everyone who join your forum . once you have peoples joined to forum they will automatically start posting however you can create 15-20 threads yourself to get peoples attention

is not it cheating ? , Creating threads is fine but then replying those threads with fake id's is not good i think .because i think honesty is part of any business . however you may try it if you want

I think that if you were to pay someone to do the same things, then it is not a problem. you are creating the illusion that the forum has members, traffic and conversations. This way, once the site gets some traffic, you wont have to do this anymore, PLUS, it doesnt cost to pay other people to do this.

Somehow, you gonna have to pay to get your forum off the ground. No one will post on any empty forum expect if they are paid for it.

What's so different about your forum that others don't have?

As far as I can tell...nothing!

Get something unique going and like the pp said, have a contest or other offer to ENTICE people. Do you have other websites and/or newsletters that you can cross-promote with? If not, then I suggest you start posting like mad and draw people in with some good content.
