Hello Friends, I am very much confusing of which edition should i choose. I have 4 gb ram, but in windows xp, it is not fast at all. I have intel core 2 duo processor. Can anyone suggest me which edition is best for me? Please help
You can use Windows 7 64 bit version using your configuration. Try to get Windows 7 64 bit OEM version and test the speed. If you are comfortable with this you can buy that.
It all depends to be honest. I would always use 32bit because at the end of the day, it' s compatible with more applications then 64bit.
64 bit supports much more RAM than 32 bit. So you can add a lot more RAM if you have the money. But 32 bit is the better choice in current circumstances because it is more compatible with all the various software out there.
What? Who cares if Windows 7 is comfortable or not...I want to be comfortable in my chair doing something in my computer and not fixing it.
64 Bit will run faster, but you have to have a 64bit porcessor to be able to run it. You don't have a choice between 32 and 64 bit. It's based on the processor type you have.
I am not sire but I think that 32bit OS only support upto 3GB RAM. If you want full utilization of RAM and your hardware then go for 64bit OS.
64-bit is gud option but you have to seriously consider what kind of use you have and of course your hardware should support 64-bit windows 7 and most of the utilities and softwares are 32-bit and you may have software compatibility issue..so check out the softwares u use are compatible on 64-bit OS.
You should go with Windows 7 64-bit OS include enhanced security with hardware-backed DEP, Kernel Patch Protection and mandatory driver signing.
i think u should go for the windows 7 32 bit os i m currently using it and it is also very nice and fast enough for the application and other things depend on price of 64 bit
I laugh at how despite this being a computer forum, a lot of you fail at computers. Ofc 64-bit is backwards compatible with 32-bit! To answer OP's question: The terms 32-bit and 64-bit refer to the way a computer's processor, handles information. The 64-bit version of Windows handles large amounts of random access memory (RAM) more effectively than a 32-bit system. But if I were you, I wouldn't be upgrading to Windows 7 if you don't play games, or if its a family computer. The only reason I use Windows 7 (and I rarely do) is to play games such as GTA IV and Modern Warfare 2. If you are using it as a workstation, I recommend to you Linux. Linux will take full advantage of your CPU and RAM, unlike Windows. Windows really bottle-necks your CPU and is a resource hog. If you work somewhere that doesn't support Linux (assuming you are using this computer at work), talk to your manager about Linux, or if all else fails, use Windows 7 64-bit. If you can use Linux, run Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit. In the other hand, if it is for a family computer, I would recommend sticking to Windows and using Windows 7 64-bit. Same goes fro a gaming rig.
love people who still think that 32 bit apps won't run on windows 7 64, i suggest you try it first, and the posts your reading this stuff from your google search are probably from 2004.
First, make sure that your processor supports 64 Bit (find your processor on Intel's Website or AMD's Website and check for EMT64T or AMD64). Second, If you have 3 GB of RAM or more, install the 64 bits version (because 32 Bit cannot recognize more than 3GB). If you have 2 GB of RAM or less, install the 32 bits version. If you have between 2 GB and 3 GB of RAM, both versions are OK, and it's up to you to decide. See this post from sevenforums.com: 32 bit vs 64 bit Comparison
