Google has indexed pages on my domain which aren't there?!

This is a really strange one. I know this section isn't meant to be about specific sites, but I felt this was the best section since its is something Google has done, rather something I have done. If mods feel differently, please feel free to move it!

I've been really struggling to get my site indexed. I've done all the usual steps, but its taking a while. Sandbox? Thats a different discussion for a different section.

However, when I search "site:http://www.URL.com" for my site, it shows two indexed pages. It shows my site with an unrecognised extension. When I click the link, it goes to my index page. However, when I click the cached link, it goes to a totally different webpage?!

To see for yourselves, this is my site:
    http://www.drifted.com
    Code (markup):
These are the URLs of the "indexed" pages:

    http://www.drifted.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&layout=blog&id=3&Itemid=44&limitstart=15
    Code (markup):
    http://www.drifted.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=12:why-does-joomla-15-use-utf-8-encoding&catid=31:general&Itemid=46
    Code (markup):
Both the URLs are alien to me. When I click the cached version of the second link, it shows up this page, which has nothing to do with my website:

    http://mousepad.co.za/index.php?opt...use-utf-8-encoding&catid=31:general&Itemid=46

Webmaster tools says I have submitted 48 URLs, and none are indexed, so what is Google doing here!?

    Thanks for any help

maybe before you make the site, the last owner of the domain made a site and clawed by google

This is the most likely explanation, and this would also explain why you have difficulty in indexing your site. For some reason, Google may have de-indexed the homepage of the previous site. If so, you mayl have great difficulty in getting your site indexed properly again.

You can check whether there was any previous site on your domain by using archive.org

Here I see those three links of your indexed pages showing your homepage. Google's indexing and showing results really had something to do with it...

I would ignore this index from google but if you have a duplicate page in your FTP get rid of it it can hurt your rankings

Thanks for the replies guys. Looks like the URL was mostly a holding page in its previous life, although this one looks like a crappy built site?

    http://web.archive.org/web/20080308192927/http://drifted.com/

It may hint as to why I'm struggling to get indexed. My blog has a plugin which automatically sends Google my sitemap, so I'm hoping Google realises my site definitely isn't spam. Anyone got any hints on how to make the site good with Google again?

Also, checking "site:http://www.URL.com" today, theres another indexed page which has nothing to do with my website! Very strange.

    Be patient.
    Google will remove broken link.
Also make sure you create robot.txt and set them up, so google can quickly crawl them..

2 are not cached, and one is. Those are the links I pulled directly from google. Search the following to see the same:

    site:http://www.drifted.com
    Code (markup):

Engkoh, I'll check out the robot.txt, not sure if I have one :)

How old is your site, when did it go live. I checked few pages, URLs for the site are keyword oriented. You need to generate some quality back-links for the site. It may help you.

Fairly sure the site has been banned in a previous life. Shivaami, trust me, we have more than enough quality back-links for a new site (incoming links from PR4 and PR3 websites, etc) . Probably too many.
