Shocking rates of sexual abuse in south Australia’s tribal lands (Alexispetrov)

Young children are suffering widespread and traumatic sexual abuse in Australia's oldest self-governing Aboriginal tribal lands, according to an inquiry.

However, fear of retribution is preventing prosecutions and treatment for the children, said the inquiry's head, former Supreme Court judge.

Mullighan, who last month released his report into the sexual abuse of children in state care, heard 269 allegations of child sexual abuse on the APY lands involving 141 children - 113 girls and 28 boys.

Mullighan said that many girls had been raped, beaten with sticks or who had regularly sold sex for petrol, alcohol, drugs or money for gambling.

@alexispetrov: waiting for your comments on that

George, your post doesn't seem to carry any outrage. Its more of a, "people from your culture do this too" type post. What you omitted was the political fallout over this incident. I've included it for you:
In other words, not only are the actions being re-reviewed, but the court that failed to prosecute the guilty is now also under review.

It seems this thread wants to use the incidence of rape in the West as some kind of justification for Mohammad molesting a 9 year old, or the child abuse/child marriage which is still commonly permitted and practiced by Muslims in many countries. I might be going out on a limb here, but I suspect that if Muslims showed as much outrage at the people in their own communities carrying out these child marriages as they have about Facebook and pictures of Mo, the laws in those countries would change and child rape would be called rape. If and when that happens, and assuming these countries actually prosecute and track the cases, you will be able to compare the Muslim rape rate to that in the west. In the mean time, it is like trying to compare the arrest rate for Marijuana possession in the US to that in Amsterdam.

Australians wont justify their acts with what is written in Bible. While Muslims who do this, cite examples of Mohammed or what is written in quran to justify their acts.

George prophet Mohamed's wife Aisha was a 10 year old child. That makes me wonder what kind of religion is Islam and what kind of people are Muslims.

It's amazing of miss-informed people are... Guys please research before typing a bunch of crap that clearly has nothing to do with the thread.

The Aboriginals are not Christian like most white Australians, they have their on set believes linked to nature and the land. Unfortunately, they have been treated like dogs in their own country and are still denied many of the same benefits as white Australians. Once a self-governing people capable of taking care of themselves, they have been turned into drunks and criminals incapable of sustaining themselves.

If Mohammad didn't touch her until she was 18, why is Marriage at puberty still a common practice in many Muslim nations. Clearly they are following Mohammad's example.

who told you that marriage age should be 18???? If God Choosen women to have mensturation at the age of 12, i think there would be some reason behind that

Still its not ordered in Islam to marry at the age of 12, rather if you study properly, it is advised the best age should be 18-22,

and yes it is a common practice, cuz people are afraid of the society in which they are living, its hard for them that to bear the pain if their daughter get pregnant before marriage, (which is very very common in European countries or in Christian society), so they do that early

You people dont live in families or dont have that much bonding with your relatives, while we do, and that's why people are afraid of, and they arrange marriages at young age, still these things are practiced in rural areas, not in urban areas.

You knw the English were man eaters, ignorant, warrior, but now according to your ideas you people are more learned, so give us time as well to learn as well, .........

There is nothing wrong in religion, but in the people,

Dont you admire that, there is only book on this earth that is not changed, not a single word is changed, its almost 1400 years, its preserved as it was sent......

There is no other book in the world, which you can memorize but there are thousands and thousands of people who memorized it,

Dont you think, that there should be an end of the world, when you have to face the results of what you have done in this life

If Bible mentioned that, Drinking Alcohol is forbidden, why christian do that

if we are following our religion whats problem with you guys

i openly admit that we are doing certain things on the name of islam in our societies which is prohibited by our religion, and we are illiterate as well, we are following western culture, we easily become pupits in the hands of US,

George, I guess you have forgot some Ayats from Holy Quran, try to remember what...? :)

if my intention is to find out bad things from you and don't like you then I must not see any good things in you. in my eyes, I will only see your evil deeds , if you don't do the same then still I research to find out. right?

The idea of Jesus being born to a Married Virgin Mother is very absurd. And that tells me that the Bible and Quran are filled with fairy tale stories. Christianity , Islam and all the other religions are nothing but a tool to brainwash and control people.

What has the rape cases got to do with religion? Though I feel that it is high time to reconsider the integration of Aboriginals into society proper, slowly but surely ensuring that they can adapt to the changes and on the other hand, train them for skills needed to find employment.

This isn't a msgr to carry out your private discussions in public, if you want a user's opinion pm him/her no start a thread on the topic unless its dedicated to the person
The info is shocking and I think its better not to encourage them by inviting discussion on these sort of topics on a regular basis, let's not be biased towards a particular region or religion, crime and horrors are present almost in every nation
