Primary and Secondary Servers

We're using a VPS. We set up a hostname as NS1.domainname.com and NS2.domainname.com
Question: Where is the secondary or primary name server here?

What is the difference if I put NS2 first in my addon domain?
Is NS1 faster than NS2? Or are they interchangeable without affecting site page?

    Hello,
There is really no need for such a confusion . Both will work as same. You need one name server at least , say primary . Just use ns2 or ns1 , but make sure both are registered.

Thanks sysadmin for the enlightenment. Some of my sites start with NS1, some start with NS2. Should I make every domain uniform in DNS setup?

It is highly recommend to have 2 nameservers on each of your domain names in case one nameservers fails.

    ns1.__________.com

    ns2.__________.com

Having only 1 nameservers on your domain name may be risky in case the nameserver fails, your website will fail. That is why its recommended to have 2 nameservers on each domain name.
