I have planned to start a big site which completely deals with the images,, so i planned to go with VPS hosting,, but i am having some doubts,, What is the use of RAM in hosting ? How it will help the site ? What is burstable RAM ? What is the use of Dedicated IP's ? What are OpenVZ & Xen ? What is RAID ? Please suggest me a good VPS hosting company,, i don't like to go with small companies,, which provides best plans and service,, thank you ashok
Bursting means that while you are always guaranteed a certain amount of system resources, far more is available on each box than simply these guarantees. Hence, should you require your loads to spike higher than your guarantees, as long as the resources are available on the box at that time, you can use them, up to your ‘burst’ level. The burst allotment is not the same thing as your resource guarantee. You cannot count on constant, sustained utilization of your burst resources. If your VPS constantly requires greater resources than your package guarantees, then you must upgrade to the higher VPS or Dedicated server plan.
Well, there are mainly two types of Ip's that will be allotted to you when you buy a hosting account, first one is shared IP and second one is dedicated IP. Lets consider shared ip which will be shared with other clients that means other domains will be hosted on the same IP with you. On the other hand, dedicated ip will be allotted just for you nobody will be sharing it or using it. Main advantage of dedicated IP is that you will be able to install ssl certificate on it which you cant install on shared ip. Lets move to your second question, what is openVZ and xen.. these are visualization software being used to virtulise a physical server. You can find more information about xen and opevz What is Raid?? RAID combines two or more physical hard disks into a single logical unit using special hardware or software. There are various types of RAID like RAID 0, RAID 1 and RAID 5.... Hope it will help you...
Most good hosts will let you start out small or mid-sized package and then upgrade you when you need more space/power. Get a decent plan to build up your site, then when traffic starts picking up, consult with your host about upgrading. Any decent host, not Godaddy or Hostgator or the likes, but a good host, will help you in finding/configuring a good plan for your needs. Pick a host that cares, not one of the large ones who couldn't care any less.
about IP if you've dedicated IP you can not be traceable, even if you are on any shared hosting and have dedicated IP you can be consider as you've dedicated server or VPS
