Is South Africa Too Dangerous For the World Cup

We hear a lot about how dangerous South Africa is, you know murders and violence.

Is it too dangerous to host the World Cup there?
Especially as some groups have said they will be targeting white supporters for violence.
Football seems to be getting rid of its reputation for attracting hooligans, but groups in S.A. say they will deliberately look for supporters and attack them.

I do not think South Africa is any more dangerous than any other place in the world for the World Cup. Terrorists can be anywhere and if they are targeting a particular event, it does not matter much where the venue is.

South Africa is a one big continent and the place the event can be held wherever safer like any other host countries before.
It's like holding the Olympic in China (Asia) while it's near from the terrorist in Iraq.

South Africa isn't without its share of law and order problems- especially in Gauteng and KZN

They did a decent job at hosting the Confederations Cup last year, although that event cannot simply be compared with the World Cup.

I guess the government and police force will do its best to reign in the gangs- the country's image is at stake after all.

However incidents like the recent one where the Colombian team had $2,000 robbed from their hotel don't really help matters.

Majority of the countries around the world have one security issue or the other and the same is true for South Africa as well. Terrorism knows no boundary and so instead of becoming fearful of it, proper precaution and acknowledging/honoring the security arrangements is the only way forward.

I am sure just like all major events... even this football world cup would pass away.... pretty peacefully! :)

Combating terrorists originated from within the country and to other countries

SA biggest problem is going to crime on Tourists, not terrorist, anyway, that's what I assume. Crime in SA is shockingly high and dangerous. That doesn't mean that SA shouldn't get a chance to host it.

We hope that security is maintained. If there are disputes before the World Cup means the Society of SA do not support their country

why south africa is not safe to hold the 2010 world cup? for security reasons,
is not an official world cup south africa has prepared security officers,
including to prevent terrorist acts would disrupt the world cup south africa.

SA will be secured when the WC comes in. All countries are going to help in securing the area. It might not be that bad, this will be good for South Africa if they are able to maintain peace during a world event
