Hindu custom in India in which the widow was burnt to death on her husband’s pyre.

Do they still practice this custom in India

Does not make sense this is a Hindu custom - just another self based, family structured flawed religion, not found in nature. Burn the Scripts for all the religions......conquiring evil needs no Script but action.

It is not practiced now. Few cases may be there but they are rarest of the rarest of the rare.

    Hey! I'm Indian.

That's true. It was practiced in some parts of India earlier. That's history now.
It's obsolete and no longer in existence.

I have not heard of any sati incidence in last 2 decades.

There may have been 2-4 incidents here and there, but I guess the practice is dead.

nice respond. I'm not sure it ended completely but guess nowadays this is so disapproval in your country. that is so valuable.

I guess if we see in our tradition frankly will find some horrible attitude either.

The practice is true and it was shut doors even before Indian independence, its what you call as modernizing the religion

I really feel you are an pakistani origin by your threads and replies, you seem to be biased with your comments

Sati might be followed still in the backward regions which haven't come on-light, people who live still in their historic days have to lighten up at least with the help of NGO's

one stated above, of the wife's head (hair) been shaved off, if husband dies, that's true but not all follow same customs, there are more complications with the customs based on their caste, and so on.. not just wife but even male/husband has to go with a complete head shave if he loses his wife or his close ones( such as father, mother, brother, son, daughter) again all this is tied up according the own's customs

I feel its bizarre to bring even such topics for discussion, unless you are one who is in close touch with the customs

That's true. It was widely practiced in India during the 14-16th century i guess. But now, it's not practiced anymore excepy maybe in a few orthodox families in remote parts of the rural region.
