Link If you don't know, market capitalization is the value of a company. It's computed by taking the number of market shares outstanding and multiplying them by the stock price. Apple is within about 2% of Microsoft. Apple also has more cash on hand. So in the eyes of the financial world, Apple is the better off company and a better buy.
After new product release ipad from apple computers. They got record sales and apple made lot of money with iphone and ipad.
Yes, but that is like apples and oranges. One company is involved with search engines and the internet while the other is focused on tangible tech products, albeit both have overlaps, apples doesn't do video games, microsoft does, apple has the iphone, microsoft doesn't have an answer. You could just as easily state coca-cola is nabisco , but great analysis as it shows Apple does have the ability to enter the search/internet game if it wanted to, not to mention video games.
Huh? That doesn't make sense. Both companies compete for the desktop though, granted, Apple pays little attention to Microsoft. Market capitalization shows how much money a company is worth. It's significant that Apple is now worth about as much as Microsoft. Having more cash on hand than Microsoft means Apple is more stable, too. While many still like to claim what a big company MS is, they are, One good quarter or move on the stock exchange and they could be valued more than Microsoft. So much for thinking of Apple as the weak sister.
If you ignore everything but Apple Mac and PC's, there is no doubt that microsoft is still way ahead. Other then that, microsoft and apple are not really going after the same market.
Yes but how about earnings per share and profit margin Btw I wouldn't invest in either they aren't going far anytime soon & I believe MSFT is only one with a dividend.
If you ignore everything but cellphones, there is no doubt that Apple is still way ahead. (Sheesh) I'm not sure which is the dumber statement.
Microsoft/Apple EPS: 1.94/11.78 Profit: 29%/21%. Dividends won't make you as much money as value. Dividends are like keeping your savings in a long term CD. Microsoft is at $26 and, except for a couple fluctuations, has been in that same price range for 10 years. About 10 years ago, I almost pulled the trigger on 10K of Apple at $10/share. It's now $245. 10 years of dividends would never come close to matching that.
As long as apple keeps building virgin creamboys (fanboys) and girls to pay $700 for a "tablet" (big ipod touch) , they will keep making good $ - and it seems the fanboy crowd for apple getting bigger and bigger. Apple will keep releasing iphones 4.0 5.0 6.0 etc and will keep selling it, and making good $
What do they call Microsoft fanboys? At least being a fan of Apple is warranted. Get that out of your head. My son owns an iPad. I've played with it. It is NOT a big iPod Touch and anyone who believes that has never used an iPad. The iPad is a remarkable device and my son carries it with him everywhere. He owns a Touch, too, but, other than that, was always a strictly Microsoft product user. His Win7 megalopolis super computer is now only used for gaming; nothing else. He has eliminated his backpack for school and does everything on it. It's a wonderful device from what little I've been able to use of it but I know he believes that. I've been given an open invitation from my wife to buy one for myself.
first gotta get some to name them haha It's a big ipod, and I, unfortunately, have 3 around me playing all the time. I have nothing against apple, but false reality and imagination land is not going to make a real computer out of an ipad. Basically, it's an ipod touch (same OS) with a big screen and a big price tag, so to surf the net with no flash support it's fine, maybe play a few $9.99 overpriced apps, some ppl can use it sure - good big keys for grandmother haha. Impossible to do real business tasks on it...try typing a letter on the touchscreen, after about a full page you'll see where that goes (oh right add $69+ for a keyboard that might break in 30 days lol - thats first hand there - after paying $700). How about data storage as a simple example, 80% of people around me use usb flash-drives to store and pass on data due to speed lags, what do we all do with ipad? lol doesn't even have a usb jack for christ sake. IMO, when Google comes up with an android/chrome OS based tablet with usb /flash support and proper multi-tasking/hardware, that's going to be the first true tablet for all users - business users and media fanboys
That's the problem. Why are people expecting this to be the same thing as a notebook/desktop? It's not supposed to be. My son's finishing his BS this year. He does ALL his papers on it and takes notes in class. He no longer carries a backpack with him. I had no problem typing on it myself though it did take a little getting used to not resting my hands on the screen. Other than that, it's fine. Don't need to buy a keyboard. Who would use it for day to day writing of business correspondence anyway? That's not what it's for! That's not what it's for. Do you complain your cellphone doesn't have gigs of storage? What? Are they on dial up? That's not what it's for and until people understand that they will continue to fall behind. For what you just said, I'll repeat, my son completely eliminated taking anything to school other than his iPad. He has no use for paper, books, pens, or any other device. He's connected to the school's network and accesses the outside world from anywhere we've been, including driving down a country road far from the city. My first impression was I didn't see a need or use for it myself but, now that I've tried it and see how he uses it, I think I want one, too. Seton Hall is now giving them away to new students to access their materials, as have a couple others. I've read a few companies have ordered hundreds of them for their employees. Stephen Fry said anyone who thinks it's just a big Touch have not used it and wouldn't say that if they did. I agree. And if they don't? First, Flash is on the slide. HTML5s video/canvas combination makes it unneeded for most uses. And, other than video, who uses it for anything but annoying advertisements? Second, you think Google is getting into manufacturing? Dont' think so. Third, you're making a lot of assumptions on something no one knows will happen ever.
Don't feel like wasting time point by point countering you (I have other things to do in the day) - as this is just going back and forth. A few obvious things: 1) my smart phone has as much storage as some of the ipads 2) having no external storage on a computing device is ludicrous , especially if you're doing any kind of business or work related activity 3) having no usb makes the thing extremely limited , done purely for apple to sell more apple hardware to people (p2) 4) having no flash support makes a ton of sites and vids limited , why buy something that limits basic computing needs 5) I've used the damn thing and it's a big ipod touch, nothing else - difference between ipad and ipod touch = screen size 6) google is working with manufacturers on an android/chrome based tablet, you'll see some on the market within a year
IMO it wouldn't be wise to invest in apple at this point, the stock is already past the point of maturing. It's much easier to fall at this point, than to continue to grow. I could be wrong, but i would at least wait for apple to split the stock. I lucked out and decided to buy early 2009, and am thinking about selling soon, as i've already made 100% roi.
Wouldn't know but who cares? Why do you feel it's necessary to have more? Or should we ask why your phone need so much storage? Again, why? You can transfer things over the 'net or save it in the cloud. Same thing. It's not supposed to be a desktop. My son does not find it limiting at all. Flash sucks battery life. HTML5 video will replace Flash. According to all the reviews, you should actually thing of the Touch as a small iPad because the iPad has functionality that couldn't fit on a Touch. Yes but Google is not coming out with a tablet as I believe you said or implied. Just like Android is on a lot of phones, I believe ChromeOS will be a wonderful thing and said so on this forum. How such a tablet will be taken remains to be seen. However, all this misses the point. Apple has surpassed Microsoft in valuation and is now the second largest company in the world behind only Exxon.
But it isn't 10 years ago! I could make same argument with MSFT 30 years ago and MSFT has split stock several times since then. with recent May crash MSFT is agood long term buy here as you can pick up for cheap (although we missed 4% gain today) + dividend you could see 30% ROI in just this year from a dividend stock ! http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=MSFT
This is certainly not true. Did you ever think that the share price is overbought? Apple sells overpriced items all the time - im sure people obsessed with apple (theres lots of them) wouldn't mind purchasing an overpriced stock just so they could claim they own part of the company. Furthermore market cap is generally based on equity (often "free cash" - more free cash could explain higher market cap) - market cap is technically not the value of the entire company. If you add up all the assets microsoft has and compare it to apple's i am sure the value of microsoft as a company far surpasses apple. Note: I am neither an apple fan boy nor a microsoft user. I use linux.
All Apple needs now to tip them over into "unstoppable" territory is a new Apple TV replacement to dominate the cable TV/Satellite/movie streaming... if they do it right then they could really have something. Currently people are seeking the all-in-one entertainment device for their living room and if Apple offers the right one then it could do damage. Just think of all the netflix people that are looking for something to hook up to the TV they purchased last year that did not have the netflix streaming built in. or what about the people that don't have an xbox or PS3 or even the Wii... just a big ol TV and high speed internet.
