Yes, I do, because there are many people who use Windows XP, and the default browser of it is IE6.

here in my place, where internet penetration and general computer proficiency is pathetically low, there's no escape. many people are not even aware of the concept called 'browser' they just know that if you click on the blue 'e' icon, internet will open ;) and what will you do if your client itself has nothing but IE6 lol

But Windows Update automatically installs IE8. Microsoft, Google, Amazon and Ebay no longer care about IE6. Why should you?

    Yep, I agree with you!

And I've always used Windows XP but I don't care at all for IE6 because I have IE8.
    Anyways, I use Mozilla Firefox.

I really don't care at all for IE6 because I'm using mozila firefox for browsing. Since, my website is designed in CSS, it does'nt support IE6 and i have written a quick message for the users of IE6 to enable ActiveX controls when IE6 prompts them to do so.

But there are people who don't know how to update Windows XP or install new browser. So why they can't be a normal visitor of your website? :)

There are still lots of people who are using IE6 as they don't know about the technical reality being normal user they don't pretend to update their browsers to meet latest technological updates! So its necessary to optimize the site to IE6 also

A lot of my traffic is still from IE6 users, so I try to keep my sites simple to support them.

Those statistics only consider those who have visited w3cshools.com and are very subjectiv.
I dont see any reason for anyone who is not interested in building web-pages for visiting that site.

Here is a quote from w3cshools.com:
With that out off the way, I personally do not suppoert ie6. And I think web-developers have taken way too long time to move away from it.

If the copy of their windows XP is genuine, SP2 or 3 or cracked to receive updates successfully then it automatically gets updated to IE8.
But i still wonder, How the heck many people are still on IE6? The only possible way for them to do is to disable windows updates, if they still want to stick with stupid IE6. (Yeah i hate IE6, in fact even 7, 8 and up coming version 9 too)

Yes! On my websites 10-15% of visitors use IE6.
If you don't care about them, ofcourse you could ignore IE6 ;)

Doesn't Windows still popup and tell you to upgrade?
IE6 users are not normal visitors. Besides, anyone using IE6 must know what they've got themselves into since they stuck with it. They're used to how it works and visiting your site won't be any different. Continuing to support it only encourages them to not upgrade.

Those are the statistics of visitors to THAT site, not visitors around the world. This is a more reasonable picture but that doesn't mean you get those same numbers. For example, I have two restaurants that get NO visitors from IE6 while I have a theatre site that gets over 70% visitors using Macs, Firefox and Chrome.

It's not a matter of not caring about the visitors as it is caring about how you present your site. Do you hold back development to cater to the minority while ignoring the majority? That's been the whole problem with all versions of IE and why no one should use it. It holds back the web.
