for domainers.. I'd suggest, register ZUNES domains.. If its a hit.. domains will sell like hot cakes.
I read an article about it the local paper today. I cant help but feel like it will have a presence but not enough to even touch iPods. As it is iPods, whether they are junk or not(Ive had 2 that refused to turn off) still have the power. The FM radio is a nice touch but even some of the earliest MP3 players have had them. Then there is a feature that allows people to share songs. Well thats nice and all, but after you listen to that song 3 times it becomes disabled and the next time you connect Zune to your PC it will automatically ask if you want to purchase the song. Out of a poll taken, only 11% found that feature important or even a factor in whether they would buy it or not... Well see how it goes..
Zune is infected with DRM, although iPods are too. I don't know about you but I can't stand DRM (Digital Rights (more like Restrictions) Management) and what it represents. Just look at this: http://xrrf.blogspot.com/2006/09/sharing-just-once-in-blue-zune.html Do you really want a device that acts defectively by default? Cause DRM is nothing but a deliberate defection for the purpose of what, filling fat pockets of RIAA labels so they can sue innocent people out of their money? Despicable.
Interesting viewpoint then there are those that feel that the artists have worked hard, and deserve the money that DRM is meant to prevent from being stolen from them
Hey frankcow, Right now I think the iPod does hold a lead, but Microsoft is planning bigger things for the Zune and having the Zune incorperated in a larger environment. I probably will be used to play games and it already has a Wi-Fi connection that the iPod doesnt. The music service (Zune Marketplace) will also feature a community which iTunes doesn't have. In the short term the iPod is winning, but if the iPod or the Zune for that matter want to dominate this market they need to keep changing what they can do. Skinny
Damn, Microsoft bashers. Never must've saw a MAC ... would have spent their life on a PC but still will bash Microsoft! Just because the owner is the richest man in the world ...lol ? Anyways ... back to the Zune Topic! Here are some interesting links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Zune http://www.engadget.com/2006/07/21/zune-what-we-know-think-we-know-and-dont-yet-know/ http://zuneinfo.com/ I have an iPod and I sure will try out on this one ... looks good so far!
In all fairness, the Zune is NOT going to kill the iPod. It's not much more than a repackaged Toshiba Gigabeat. It doesn't have a scroll wheel. The interface isn't going to be as cool as iPod. Also, Windows Media Player is no match for iTunes. Zune is going to be a flop, wait for Zune 2.0 or 3.0. Maybe a Zune phone, but this first Zune is a stop-gap to try and stop the video iPod before it's too late, too bad it's too late. Sorry Microsoft, try again. Disclaimer: I love Microsoft and the Xbox 360, so I'm not hating on Microsoft, just being honest about the Zune.
Bye bye Ipod? Your kidding me right... Ipod owns the portable music player market the way Google owns search.
I on contrary believe in Micro.. the hav the money to employ the best brains in the world. If they are launching something, they mustve thought about it Donno y ppl hate it so much
DRM is really a huge issue. With every new player you get a further bastardisation of the term interoperability and a further crackdown on your rights to use a product (music file) that you have payed for as you wish. Want to convert all yor paid for Itunes files on your new Zune? Forget about it. Yeah MS might offer you free replacment files but thats a whole load of hassle. I dont think the Ipod will be killed unitl someone very neatly integrates a music player into the mobile phone. You are already seeing this with the major manufactureres pushing into this arena. It's more likely that it will be Nokia or Motorola... that will kill the Ipod than MS. The wireless link in Zune is very interesting however...
Nano is cool but seems easy to be scratched, for me Iriver is cool enough. Good features/sound and robust.. And there's some waterproof casings for certain models too... Never owned an Ipod of any kind, and dont intend to...but will check out Zune. As a general rule, I would think mp3 players on mobile phones have less sound quality than a true dedicated mp3 player, and this would also apply for digital cameras vs those in mobile phones... Otherwise there'd be no market by now for all the cool digital cameras... Just my 2 cents...
3-inch screen and built-in FM are some interesting specs but i believe ipod will still be the king of the market . Lets see what exactly happens in future
My brother has an Iriver and it has features and upgrades that nor ipod nor zune can dream, but ipod is the king. Nevertheless i don't belive that zune is not going to be sold as cookies, microsoft are not new in the tech market!
