Just submitting a new website it to link directories

This is purely hypothetically, but what would happen if you'd start a new website, on its own domain, add some nice unique content, and submit it to, say, 500 link directories?
What would your PR approximately be?
Would Google rank it high on SERPs for relevant keywords, despite that the site has got no links from really related sites?
Would it matter if you'd submit deeplinks instead of homepage links to the directories, and interlink your site well?

I'd guess at least a PR3, but if you're lucky and get some decent listings, probably a PR4.

Make sure you wait before you submit to directories for at least 2-3 months to make it look more natural
