The very popular Russian search engine Yandex has recently released an English language version that actually provides clean and good results. While it's traffic levels are no where near Google in the US, I have to say I like the search results a lot - maybe better than Bing, Yahoo and sometimes Google. Check it out at - www.yandex.com
Google has no chance to win Yandex here in Russia. If their English-language search and other services would be so good like on Yandex.ru they can get their part of the pie. But it will take a few years (Yandex is not so fast).
That's really good news! Yandex is one of the very few SEs google failed to overshoot (locally, but well..)! Now it's beginning an expansion! I wish them good luck!
Yeah, I think they actually have a chance of being one of the big four in the US and with any luck that will happen soon as Google seems to be buying everything and taking over the world and Yahoo and Bing are going to basically merge on the search side, so that really only leave Yahoo/Bing, Google and a distant Ask.com (which uses Google Ads) and AOL (which is completely run by Google). Would love to have more searching and advertising options going forward.
Wow, the search result is pretty impressive. the only flaw here is to make the search faster. Its pretty slow compared to other SE but still quite impressive. Certainly what we can call a Google alternative incase if Google got attacked etc
Maybe the results are not good now, but I think in a few years it will become rather good search engine.
I had blocked Yandex's bot a few days back (95.108.217.251). I thought it was some sort of scraper bot as it was consuming a lot of bandwidth. I have unblocked it for now. Let's see if it can send me any traffic....
yandex is looking good, i have heard that they are very strict and values user experience highly. however its too early to compare them both, yandex is basically a local search engine for Russia and we still have to see how good it does worldwide.

As far as I know, Yandex is still developing it's engine for the worldwide search. Now they are testing beta version. uttoransen Yes, Yandex is rather strict to link trading and dublicated content. It's developing new filters for "bad" websites all the time...... Loking forward for the time,when Yandex.com will be started oficially.
You are correct, but I just wanted to point out that they actually could be a player in the US in the future. Maybe a smaller player, but still a player!
Last 4 months i am getting more and more traffic out of yandex so i won't complain about that. The search option is fine but maybe they could use the space on the right better. Now all text is on the left and its not really synoptic.
