It is proved that today's e-commerce is getting more and more populated and even if you are hitting a big "1" in the ranks, people might not buy from you.

The difference between a converting site and a non converting one is based on Site optimization.

How many of you do actual optimization to your sites?

How many of you use the following tools?

    • Visual marketing strategy
    • Internet persona strategy
    • Targeted traffic
    • Subliminal Marketing
    • Guerrilla Marketing

Being on top of the ranks is not enough anymore.

    Cheers!

In my view SEO is really tricky. Even if you are on top you may not get the traffic at all ~

I am talking about sites that are good rated and are getting large amounts of traffic, I deal with them every day and they lose loans of money because their sites are definitely not properly set to convert.

It is truly hard to separate the parts from the whole. Just as a car isn't much without a steering wheel, engine, headlights, transmission, your marketing efforts are not truly functional without covering all facets of promotion: SEO, SEM, Social networking, Direct Marketing, Email marketing, Video, Articles, Directories, Blog Comments, Forum posts, Affiliates, etc. Best of luck

I have closely followed my conversions on all of my ecommerce sites I have ever owned. It pays off too! Part of winning at this game is knowing where potential customers are becoming mere website visitors instead of buyers then optimizing those areas. Some people have poor product descriptions, either too lengthy with unnecessary information, or too short, not giving enough clarity to the buyer. Others may leave at your shopping cart when they realize you don't offer purchases via credit cards. Worst, they may never get off the front page because your website design is so poor they can't figure out how to navigate to the areas they want to go. Statistics and this data is absolutely key!

Allow me to tell you that I have been managing affiliates for a long time and it's very hard to find someone who really knows how to work.

Most affiliates spreads banners on a white page, linking to the merchant homepage. lol.

Giving high commissions, the best cataloge around, accepting all major payment methods, personal affiliate support, all possible marketing tools, quality products and I can continue... sometimes is not enough to sell.

I've seen many, many affiliates having the best terms and just not taking profit of them.

How can anyone having all this (plus loans of traffic) can just ruin his/her conversion ratio?? I mean... I am not talking about all the affiliates but there are a lot of "affiliates wannabe" around

Some subliminal marketing is wicked, putting vague prices in the product images with a big stripe through it:

    From 5$ for 3,99$

    works like a charm

Or just putting a price on a product, and have it appear lower in the shopping cart, helps to push conversion ratio up

Yes... maybe, but that way you might hurt the trust between customer and merchant.

On the other hand... it's always nice to find a lower price when proceeding to the payment :)

    Nevertheless, I prefer clear messages.

well, returning customers are always nice, but I prefer a high conversion rate as well :)

Plus, if I put a 'wrong' price on a certain product, some blogs pick that up, which leads to more traffic :D

Honestly this should be an automatic must for everyone! If you don't have a site that converts and sells being on the top rankings than you have some problems. Anyone educaTED in marketing knows how to sell and close an ad .

Completely agree, as said above, a lot of "affiliates wannabe" don't even know the word optimization.

I am basically asking how important is for affiliates having their site properly designed and targeted and how many of them do actually something.

some affiliates doesn't know even how to change a header :(

Then the Affiliate Program becomes an Academy for Newbies ;)
