one thing about vb 4 is not right. I haven't noticed this earlier. Apparently they have let out IE of the whole look and feel. All those cool round effects seem to be not working with IE. Still more then half of the internet users use IE, regardless anybody like it or not. I just don't get it how they could make a web solution and not get it visually ok with IE.
vBulletin didn't leave the rounded corners out for IE, Microsoft left the rounded corners out of IE. It's part of CSS3, which IE doesn't support.
Can't fix something when it's the browser that simply doesn't support it. Internet Explorer 9 is supposed to have support for CSS3.
MS is reputed for being like that. We all have spent many hours fixing sites for IE problem. Since css3 is new, many browsers are still catching up. Although IMO it would have been nice to see all users experience the site almost same way regardless the browser.
These days everything does render pretty close to the same across Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera. Internet Explorer is the only one that sucks. I've pretty much abandoned "officially" supporting IE on anything I make now. If it works with IE, great... but I'm not even going to bother loading IE to check. It's Microsoft's problem that they shove on to webmasters. Microsoft expects webmasters to create 1 version for all browsers, then a 2nd version just for IE. Yeah, no thanks... Users don't have to use Internet Explorer, and if they choose to do so it's Microsoft giving them a bad experience, not the site.
Hmm haven't had any problems with IE but after reading this I might permanantly use Chrome..In firefox I end up having dozens of tabs open and never get anything done lol
Ohh must've read wrong. Read some post on vb.com from Paul M. saying that IE will no longer be compatible with vBulletin soon.
I think vBulletin isn't even trying to support IE6, but they will try and support IE8 the best they can (obviously you can't magically make it support CSS3 for things like rounded edges).
I don't even get why people still use Internet Explorer. FireFox & Google Chrome are like way better.
Well, even when I don't use IE at all, I have to program/design with IE in mind too. Why? Because most of the visitors (customers) uses IE, any version. So that's the worst part, that the people reject to change of browser for any reason...
there are dynamic round edge generators with caching. if vb team wanted, they could use something like that in combination with css2 to make it work with ie as well. they are smart people, i am sure they have their own reasons not to go for it.
It would be a lot of overhead that all users would have to endure for really inefficient/ugly hack for round corners on IE. IE doesn't support rounded corners... If users cared, they wouldn't be using IE to begin with.
