Hey Not sure if you guys are aware of a excellent free office software. OpenOffice.org 3 is the leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It is available in many languages Its excellent to use for all your needs Open Office
I saw one of my friend use it, but never tried it personally, is it good enough to use it?since microsoft has office 2010 beta going on..
If you have an older system, try AbiWord. It is just a word processor and doesn't come with presentation software or spreadsheets. OpenOffice doesn't work fast on anything less than 512 MB of RAM. If you have 256 MB of RAM or even lower, you can still try to AbiWord. It doesn't come with all the bells and whistles of MS office. However, it comes with a decent mix of features which make it very handy and useful. It is also very light on system resources and loads superfast. Just like OpenOffice, it is an open source project--free as in free beer. More information: http://www.abisource.com/
Abiword comes with some additional features such as a spell checker, document sharing, and mail merge. It also has a plugin based architecture, so additional features can be added as required.
Yea, I haven't had too many spelling issues (haha ironic if I messed up this post), so never noticed.
Yeah, Open Office isn't bad. I use it on some of my computers because I can only afford one MS Office license. I do prefer MS office though, and use it for any heavy-duty work.
No doubt OpenOffice is good ( I used it for about 4 months) but I still prefer MS Office because when it comes to presentations MS office is more visually enhanced than OpenOffice. The new MS Office 2010 beta leaves OpenOffice far behind.
I have been using Open Office for about 5 - 6 years. When I do consulting work, I recommend Open Office over microsoft office all the time. I see no reason to buy a word processor, when you can get it for free. For small companies, and not for profit organizations, (companies and people who have a very limited budget), Open Office is an excellent choice.
I like the way Open Office handles spreadsheets over MS plus the ability to create PDF's but other than that I use MS.
IMO, OpenOffice is just not very attractive. In fact, it looks old and ugly. Does it do the job? Yes. But if you use a computer 12 hours a day you want some eye candy too. Believe me, I'm not a big M$ fan. In fact I despise them. But you can buy MSO2007 standard for $149 online. To me, it is well worth it.
Openoffice is great I never use Office anymore but occasionally i'll use Google docs if im on a shared computer.
Open Office is continually evolving and I would not be surprised if I see enhancements in it in the near future that will approximate, equal or even exceed the features available in MS Office 2010. The best thing about Open Office is that it's free! Of course, you can make a donation if you want, to help its development.
Except window OS i kind of boycott microsoft. Using OpenOffice and i must say it is great office software.
