I have heard many people making big money on selling on domain names, is there anyone over here that can share such stories?

Domain names sell for up to millions of dollars- if you have a good one.

    Research business.com & diamonds.com

Indeed, good domain names sell for up to millions of dollars, but it takes long years and several factors.

Unfortunately many people believe that any given name will hit the market but not, since most of of the great domain names are already taken.

Yes, I was just thinking about that...the population of domain names will soon decrease leaving little left to purchase.

Yup- the 1kw great domains are pretty much gone but keep on the look out for emerging trends & technologies.

You can't register trade mark names but new technology like IPTV or VOIP come out all the time. Hint-Hint ;)

Your joking right? IDNs are opening up a whole new world of domains. There will be more domains in the future than you can possibly imagine. And whats more more content in languages other than English.

There have been (as you can see above) alot of domain names that have gone for pretty hefty money, but the fact is that it's extremely hard to sell domain names by themselves. If you've got a domain name that is back up by a big user base it'll go for good money, but just to domain alone usually wont go for much unless it's something special. I've personally had a few domain names that I felt were decent and would get some money but never could find buyers for them.

Yeah you cashed up if you were buying domains in the 90's. We're left with the scraps.

    Me too.

Most recently, I sold phone-system.org for $1000 to a broadband service company in Cyprus! My total cost for the domain? $7 :D

It is still possible to make a decent income in this business. Don't except to make millions though.:p

A lot of domains sell in the $XXX to $XXXX range.

I've been doing it for while now, I agree there are still opportunities out there but it's very cut throat. The realy money is in development of a good domain, not in domain reselling if your new to the business. With domain tasting going on as well, it's a shady business to get into. So much for a level playing field on the net, huh.
