This Google Adsense settings doubled my CTR!

I have been using XFactor adsense strategy for about 5 months and always wonder how best can we maximize the CTR. And out of curiosity, I change one of the settings in my adsense account for a week to test out and I am delighted by the results =)

The setting is: Interest Based Ads. If you are doing micro niche, I would strongly advice you to turn this setting off! After disabling this setting, I have seen an increase in CTR, one channel even close to double (from 15% to 26%). This experiment is conducted without any other changes to the ads.

To change the setting, go to your google adsense acount under account settings, click edit the interest based ads and choose the disable option.

I have also attach 2 screen shots showing some of the improvements before and after.

BEFORE (on a total of 8 channels)
    Average CTR: 5%

AFTER (on a total of 8 channels)
    Average CTR: 8%

    Important Note
Before you go and change the settings, please understand this sharing is based on my personal observations. And I highly encourage to only change this settings for your adsense account if you are targeting micro niches.

Anyone has similar experience to share?

This is NOT setting for ads shown on YOUR SITE.
This IS setting for the ads that YOU WILL SEE on all sites.

are you sure, it says "These ads are served to users based on their interests and may improve your earning potential over time"
why does it talks about earning potential then?

Wrong. This is a setting in AdSense for ads shown on your site.

I think I'll give this a try as well. I just hope it doesn't make my CTR drop.

Thanks for the tip. I guess the best thing to do is to test it the same as you did and see if we get the same results. Has anybody else tried this yet?

    $hit !

I think this is really working (no joke)!

I changed my Adsense setting last night before I went to bed. My CTR yesterday was 2.54%, today (so far) my CTR is up to 5.06%.

I havn't touched a single thing on my blog or Adsense except that one setting on Adsense (interest based ads), I have interest based ads turned off.

I have a blog with a very small niche, that I've done only on-page SEO, sometimes I'll get 2000 page impressions a day, I havn't posted on that blog since the first of the year (Jan. 2010), also I havn't posted on any sites or forums that would include a link to my Adsense site (sigs., etc...).

My traffic today is kinda low (474 page impressions), but it's only 1:30 PM still a few hours left in the day. I imagine I'll max out in page impressions at about 1700 today, that's about average for this small niche site.

I might be jumping the gun as far as testing this Adsense tip, anyways so far, so good!

Very interesting. Is there a reason why you are suggesting not to disable the setting on high volume websites? (opposed to only disabling for niche sites)

I tried this for 2 days, didnt work for me either. Earnings were lowered. Maybe it depends on niches

It works if there are more advertisers in that specific niche, to get targeted ads.
And it works if your niche is related to products reviews and your visitors are looking to buy products.
