Any particular reason you have it set like this? <meta name="robots" content="noindex, follow, noodp, noarchive, noydir" /> Anyway, article marketing and press release submissions are a great way to go... Basically you want to build some strong quality backlinks and Content, Content, Content.! Keep your blog updated particularly to the tune of a post every other day or everyday...
What would be a more appropriate way to change the <meta name="robots" content="noindex, follow, noodp, noarchive, noydir" /> part?
I would probably recommend article marketing, social networking and social bookmarking. Also promoting by word of mouth. I think that works good for promoting blogs.

Stumbleupon is a great tool to generate content. Of course reddit & digg. But since you're a blog writer, you may want to look into Scribd.com. It's an article sharing website. What's cool about it is, you can mirror your blog on scribd, and see how many people have read it. Plus, they have copied Facebook and each user can have statuses. So you can promote your blog through that. And then of course, make sure other blogs are aware of you following them. jcartermarketing.wordpress.com Retweet them! People are obsessed!

Do you try blog commenting strategy? If both article submission and social media marketing are useless for you, you can try to find some niche blogs that support "DoFollow" links. Then, you need to read the articles on those blogs and submit your valuable comments there. Through this way, I am sure you can gain many backlinks and big traffic at the same time.

Starting groups on Facebook etc is another way to start getting traffic. Mastering Twitter Joining Blog directories like Technorati and Blogcatalog. Blog catalog has a ton of groups that specialize in helping members get instant traffic. I'd suggest doing Article Marketing. I've found it to be the most useful for both building links and attracting targeted visitors. Posting in forums is another good way.
