I try to put them in competitive ad filter but not sure how effective it is. I am getting all sorts of MFA sites and lots of parked domains ads on my content site. Anyone having same problem or dealt with it in past? tia
Well try and narrow down the <h1> <b> <strong> <title> <meta> tags to a specific topic that is related to each page. Is it music? films? or general celebrity stuff?
its really a very difficult thing to do. Try using Dp's sandbox to see the ads your site is showing and see if you can block some sites, I tried it but haven't noticed much of a difference.
I have the same problem but all you can do for the moment is manual filtering them from your adsense account panel .
That's because for every 100 MFA site you filter out, another 1000 takes their place. Don't waste your time. The reason these MFA sites show up everywhere is because they have the money to pay for all those clicks; and if they're paying for all those clicks, Adsense is making money from them via Adwords, so they have very little incentive to stop these MFA sites. (And yes, I know what Adsense claims to be doing about these MFA sites; don't believe them.)
What you are saying is correct buy sometimes the MFA sites aren't relevant to the pages content, just general stuff like 'best blah blah'. So blocking those URLs might display different ads with a lower CPC but which are likely to get clicked. Its all about trial and error with url blocking.
Yepp, thats the way google is spinning the money right now. I wouldn't mind if the advertiser is MFA site but today morning I saw 8/10 were parked domains. It harms publisher two ways, offcourse the low pay per click but also visitor hits back button immediately after seeing parked domain - thus adsense (smart pricing) thinks this page is not converting well.
And as I said, you can use up all your URL filter, but you'll still get MFA sites, only these will pay less than the ones you blocked. It's not a matter of trial and error, it's a matter of accepting that this is how the system works, and not wasting your energy with a finger in the dyke, as it were.
It doesn't always happen that way, I have blocked MFA/spammy sites many times and they have been replaced with relevent ads the next day. The relevant ads have a much higher CTR and give a higher eCPM. As always, different sites will experiance different results. Some sites might not have any targeted ads at all.
I think MFA sites do harm the user experience quite a bit. I read from some blog that there was a presentation about a user having to click 6 times before reaching the actual service provider. All that money lost...lol
I used to get a lot when I was hosted on blogspot, since I moved I haven't seen one... Not sure where you're hosted, but that could have something to do with it.
That made me think of something, I haven´t searched too much but it maybe does exist, and for sure it can be done: A plugin for wordpress (or other software) that automatically adds <strong> or custom made tags to words you configure, like <a> <rel>, etc.
