Opinion on what happened

    Hello,
I was hoping people could please help me work out what has happened to my website. My website has been around for about 4 years. I have a key 2-word search term. In Bing and Yahoo I am in the top 5 results for my key term. In google.com I was in the top 30. Google.co.uk I was in the top 5.
I employed a SEO firm to try and get higher in SERPs. After about 3 months I stopped working with the SEO firm because I felt for the money I was paying them, they wern't hardly doing anything. They got me a lot of links but of maybe the 200 links they got me, only around 10 have shown up in my GWT, even 3 months after finishing working with them. Note however I did some research and this firm was white-hat and reputable in the SEO industry.
Anyway around a month after I finished with them, in March, in Google.com I dropped from around 25 to about 250, which is where I am now, and in Google.co.uk I disappeared from the results completely for my target 2-word keyword completely. I am still in the top 5 in Bing and Yahoo.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this fall in rank to my website?

    Thanks
    guru

When your website is on stand by, I mean without any changes either on new content as in links, and suddenly you start building links that fast. Google may believe you are spamming. So they penalize you. In the other hand you could add new content and build links more slowly and on time increase the speed, in this way your are justifying what is happening. Perhaps that SEO Company was spamming.

Your site is doing the google dance. I have had this happen to a few of my sites. One is a dog training site and it always sat happily at no 3 in google for my main keyword. it was there for about 6 months and then google kick me out and i disappeared. I had not changed anything my link building was the same, I was really upset, but after 6 weeks of my site returned to the front page again. These things happen and it is really frustrating but i'm sure you will see your site back to where it should be soon.

i think Google has not ban your site but just penalized it looking with so instant building of links.
Therefore now you should try to create some original content and approach "G" to re consider ur site.Slowly and gradually u may attain your past position. But don't forget to create links from other sources too.

There could be many reasons for this. Google has recently been updating its algorithms so maybe it caused a drop for you with its new system. I don't think 200 links is a lot, especially if your site is already ranking well (meaning you prob have a lot of links already), but its hard to say without any specifics.

Also SEO is an ongoing process. You can't expect to get to the top and don't do anything and remain on the 1st page. You need to be constantly working at it.

200 links is a lot when your website you leave your website alone for some time, specially no content is added.
