Im taking a month off traveling to work on my site, i wont be doing anything else but working on my site

the only problem is i havent got a clue what to do

im looking to create a detailed checklist of things i can do daily to help improve my SERP's and increase traffic.

i need to create something visual like a checklist as i always get bored and wonder off to different things, but if i have a checklist i can tick off each day i think this will help

With your suggestions please go into more detail rather than just saying - submit your site to social bookmark sites, i really need as much help as possible

I cant write articles as im useless at doing so but i can do mind numbing submissions etc.

and before you say 'just make sure you have quality content' i already have quality content, though i dont have much control over it as its users who upload music files.

There isnt much text either on the site so i cant really add content to the site, im looking for mainly off-page optimization

If some of you really help me out i may even repay you with a little cash or a banner/link space on the site

thanks in advance, i look forward to hearing your ideas

maye you can make a proxy site within it? then give CPA
or just start a blog, then after it's PR goes up, sell the blogroll or review from it...
Blog owner does not mean you have to create the articles by yourself.

    Or you want something else?

If I would have a month time free to work on my site the I would love to do :-

1- Analysis of my key competitor why they are ranking higher than me. - for 1st day
2- I will list some factors to analysis my competitor like-( 1 day for each)
    *Domain age
*Keyword research for they are ranking
*Keyword density analysis (for this I use quirk search status add-on for fire fox)
    *Title
*Meta description analysis ( I use seocentro.com and websitegrader.com for this)
    *Navigation
*Page speed check ( Install pagespeed addon for fire fox)
*No. of external and internal links of competitor and that of mine.
    *Page rank.
*SEO score (It is not of importance, but I love to see it on whois.domaintool.com )
*Will check backlink of my competitor.
    *H1, H2.. headers.
    ..............
While analyzing my competitor website, I would upgrade my website accordingly so that it could be better on many paramneter ( you cann't change some parameter like domain age )
I think it can take your 15 days or ever more...

after that I would make an strategy how to get more and more back-link and would finalizing few of them like
*Forum posting and getting back-link from signature.( personally I love it)
    *Article submission
    *Blog commenting
    *Link exchange
and then keep building link for rest of my days.

and hope at the end of my one month off, my website would have a better serp.

So, can you do it ?

    Build Backlinks
    Article Marketing
    Press Release Submissions
    Video Marketing
    Social Bookmarking
    Blog Commenting
    Forum Signatures
    Internal Linking
    External Linking
Anchor Text / Link Text and Link Titles

    1. Decrease Webpage Load Time.
    2. Get Listed in Google Local Search.
    3. Get Involved in Social Media.
    4. Optimize Your Website For Mobile Users.
    5. Apply Web Analytics to its full potential.

    DIRECTORIES
    • Site listed in DMOZ Directory - HUGE boost
o Google's directory comes STRAIGHT from the DMOZ directory.
    • Site listed in Yahoo Directory - Big boost
    • Site listed in other directories (About, etc.)
o Directory listing boost (If other RESPECTED directories link to you, this
    must be positive.)

So much more, but basically it comes down to building backlinks to get you to rank high in the Search Engines for your keywords. At the same time, you don't want to just concentrate on receiving Organic traffic from the search engines, you also want to get traffic from other places as well.

By the way, what is your website?

animesh - thanks for the suggestions, i will look at my competitors today, the number one spot for my keyword seems quite easy to beat, it is only a pr4 and has 25 links on google

I will read up how to change my headers, it seems confusing at the moment.

i have tried to find some do follow blogs i my niche but there are not many, does the blog have to be do follow and within my niche or can i post on any do follow blog to get a backlink? Can you suggest any free software to help me with this

I will have to leave articles as im not good at writing them, and i dont have the money to pay someone to write for me.

As for backlink strategy - can i post on any forum to get a signature?? or are there certain forums that i get a backlink from? is there anyway to check this?

My website does have anywhere i can place links on the homepage, is it ok to create a seperate links page within the website and add them there or are they useless for other WM

GuruCreation - i think youtube could help me a lot but i am trying to find a download, watermark and upload script to assist me, do you have any ideas, as i said before i will have to leave out articles, how would i use social media??

My website is the first link in my signature

The blog or website where you place your link should be dofollow only then search engine will follow it and you can take juice link (as said) of that site. I have personally not used any such software, but you may try some web directory like followlist.com ( do a google search).

Every forums have its own policy for signature link, just read the FAQ of that forum and you will get the details.. If you get signature link form relevant forum then it will be best as SE give more value to relevant link...

If want to do link exchange but not with home page, then you may create a resource page ( like many others) from where you can exchange links, many WM agreed to do link exchange with such pages.. remember, that should be relevant site.

    Thanks

I've seen dramatic improvements in SERP after gaining links from PR3+ sites within my niche. I really think this is still the biggest bang for your buck and time.

Here is my overall to do list:
    1. Pay someone for quality directory submission service: good way to gain general backlinks, make sure they are do follow and the directories are not blocked by Google. Use your keywords as the anchor text (title) in directory subs.
    2. Get text links from PR3 or higher sites in your niche. Use your keywords as the anchor text in these links.
    3. Press Release submission: either write or purchase a quality press release. submit with someone who guarantee's Google News indexing.
    4. Social networking: submit your site to top social networks. Find others to submit your site also.
    5. Create a blog and link to it from your site. This is where you can add text content. Ping your blog after each new content is added.
    6. Double check your onpage: image alt tags, H1, h2, h3. keyword usage.
    7. Create a video explaining your site, service, etc. Submit to youtube. Find viewers, promote your video on digg, etc.
    8. More directory submissions.
    9. Article submissions. Write articles or pay someone else to. Submit to top article directories, put links to your site in signature, again using your keywords as anchor text.

I bought Aaron Walls SEO book years ago, scanned through it and put some of the things into practice.

Every now and then I revisit the book for ideas, I visit his site to see if there is anything new and interesting (hasn't been for a long long time!). That's probably what I would do is revisit some of your old ebooks or webmaster sites that you are subscribed to - to see what everyone else is doing and if there is anything you can improve on.

    Happy holidays :D

The best thing to start SEO is to do analysis thoroughly about your:

    1. Competitors (friendly competitors & tough competitors)
    2. Keywords & phrases
    3. Website structure (whether it's SEO & visitor-friendly)
    4. Content (optimized with your targeted keywords)

Content is the king and SEs evaluate your website content for better ranking. Try to add quality content frequently to your site. If you don't want to write articles then I suggest you participate in blogs and leave comments. This way, you can get quality backlinks for your site. Of-course, consider participating in relevant blogs as per your website category.

Also there are other ways to work on your site like, social bookmarkging, forum participation and PR submission.

    Hope this helps!

Best way which was mentioned a bunch of times is to see who ranks top and do what they do, but better. You can't do anything about the age factor, which is a bummer, but oh well. I'm also in the same situation where there are barely any blogs in my niche. I would love to get relevant backlinks, but it's super hard.

Two words - competition and marketing. For the competition part, look at who's ahead of you and take the time to really study what they are doing. Figure out your target audience and what they want to see on your site. If you were in their shoes, what would you be looking for?

As for the marketing, do article marketing. You say you've got plenty of time... use that time to submit articles to directories and network on the forums. If you hate to write, there are professionals out there that can do it for you. Just make sure to do your homework and work with a company that is legitimate, so that you wind up with the best content.
