Office 2003 and 2007 on the same PC?

I already have Office 2003 installed on my PC running XP OS and am going to install Office 2007 on the same PC. Are there any precautions that I need to take so that both version can run successfully?

I have read about word 2003 and 2007 existing together successfully but I am not sure about how excel would run, particuarly how it deals with personal workbook where macros are stored! Will it create two separate personal workbooks or will both the version access the same single personal workbook?

I have tested it and no problem as both will have their own folders. But the default will be the 2007 when you click on the file to open unless you opt by opening the individual office like Word and using the file open function to open the file you want. The only thing is you have to decide whether or not you want to use Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007 when installing.

 

Yes, you can install office 2003 on different drive and office 2007 on different drive.

 

I have successfully installed 2007 on the same drive as 2003 and the installation got completed smoothly. 2007 files take a bit of time to load as compared to 2003... is there any remedy to speed it up?

What is your system configuration? If you are using Windows 7 with 4 GB RAM, then it should be running fast. Are you on network? Make sure that any of the network not in operation should be removed. Also, if you have printer not in use, remove the driver.

 

Can I ask why you need both? Why not use just one? Using/Installing both will just hog down your system.

Either use 2003 or 2007 (and save 2007 files in compatibility mode).

 

If you install them in two separate drives I think they should work fine but then again why do you need both of them anyway?

 

I've done both, no problems; however, I dislike 07 - just IMO

 

Yes, they work fine without any issues and 07 is much better.

 

I'm using office 2003 and 2007 in same machine..i didnt come up with any office related issues till now..

 

My children find 2003 too obsolete to work on... and If I prepare my files in 2007 on my home PC... these files would not open up in 2003 in my office machine!

You do not need to install office 2003 just so that you can save the files in 2003 format.

You can use office 2007 and STILL save the files in 2003 format which will work in your office machine.

In Office 2007, When you click on the office button (previously 'file'), select save as, then select the third option 'Word 97-2003 Document' instead of the first option 'Word Document'. (Same can be applied to Excel etc.)

Now that both are already installed... I am looking at a way to speed up loading of 2007 files... particularly excel! It sometimes takes 1-2 minutes to load the file!

why do u need 2003 installed when 2007 is installed.? 2007 can open all files opened by 2003

 

I've got office 2003 and 2010 beta installed on my PC and they work great together. I'm not completely used to 2010 but it's better in any way that the 2007. You can download Office 2010 beta from bstdownload.com/reviews/microsoft-office-2010-14/ It will expire only in nov, untill then it's free to try.

 

It is possible to use 2003 and 2007 at the same time. But I'm using 2003 now I fit to it. I like it than 2007.

 

i would suggest you to remove office 2007, because office 2003 is far better than that

 

No problem for the two installed on the same PC, 2007 will be the default. However,I met the problem with the interaction between sharepoint and excel 2007, you can only upload data from excel 2003 to the sharepoint site, not from excel 2007.
