Conversion Rates for Affiliates

Ok, So i'm not talking about my own product here - The Migraine Relief.

Instead I'm talking about a Chicken Coop Book I'm promoting. I have some well targetted keywords that are as close to a buying phrase as I can get. In fact, the one I want to rank for the most, I'm now 4th in Google for, it gets over 60,000 searches a month.

I have had the site for less than 3 weeks, but have had over 3,000 uniques and am only converting at 0.5%. The previous owner suggests the traffic was even higher and the conversion rate was even lower.

Any thoughts of where this should be at? What sort of basic techniques are used to increase conversion rates?

This is more of a keyworded content site, rather than a traditional "Selling" landing page. I myself tend to be put off by "selling" type landing pages, which is why this caught my eye.

Any ideas appreciated, and if anyone else is struggling with anything, feel free to add to this post and I'm sure people will help.

    Thanks

You have some obvious problems. When you say you spoke at "schools, institutes and universities" you didn't name ONE. This is called an UNSUBSTANTIATED CLAIM. When you say "Supported by the knowledge of many experts and specialists" and don't name ONE, you have another unsubstantiated claim. These greatly undermine your credibility, the credibility of the site and, of course, your conversion rate will suffer. People throw unsubstantiated claims around on the Web all the time. People are used to them. They've been ripped off and they correctly say "Yeah, right" and click away.

Separately, instead of just having your guarantee buried, once, in the middle of the page, it should appear prominently with each of your Order Now buttons. It shouldn't say Migraine Relief Guarantee, it should say Money Back Guarantee (if that's what your offering) and the Guarantee Seal should appear on the checkout page.

Well as Most of the stuff I post in here relates to that, I just thought I'd make it clear. If I was going to Plug it, I'd probably say. "But before we talk about that, check out the link in my Sig!"

    :)

Your answer may well be in your question... you don't have to have a full on sales page, but some sort of excitement building, curiosity peaking, appetite whetting pre-sales copy wouldn't go amiss.

Yeh, I see what you mean TGR.

At the moment it is a simple Content page, much like one you would use for an adsense site.

4235 visits and 18 sales (3 times what I expected after buying it based on $100 per month income :) )

0.00423% conversion Visits/Sales is hardly ideal though
