I currently have some blogs over at blogger.com . Is WordPress different, unique, does it do things different or better than blogger?

    Thanks

One big difference is that you host it (WP) on your own domain and can completely customize it as you like (you can edit the source code).

WP blows blogger out of the water. You can edit your code and create a mean looking blog. You can also integrate adsense much better since you've got control of the code.

I like WP's admin interface a lot better as well. They released a new v1.5 with loads more features.

I havnt used WordPress but I have to say that Blogger is ace as it does the job for me.

As for hosting it on your own domain and editing the source code this can be done as well, just check out my blog, the only downside I can figure is that it doesn't have categories which is something I am working on ;-)

Yup, I host my own blogger blog as well. All you need is basic FTP knowledge to set it up.

I like blogger for these reasons:

    1) ease of management from anywhere in the world

    2) regular visits by g00gleb0t

    3) ability to change the dates/times of my posts (not sure if this is possible in WordPress)

    4) it's the standard, which means that most add-ons, plugins, accessories, etc. that other companies & individuals create will work with blogger.

The only thing I don't like about blogger is the comments functionality (most get around this by using Haloscan for comments) but otherwise I've very happy with it. I was having a really hard time with GreyMatter before I switched to blogger.

I like Blogger. It's a great easy blog for newbies (no offense to any users) but WordPress is what serious people will use once they outgrow Blogger. WordPress does allow you to change the dates and times of your posts. WordPress has categories so you can sort your posts.

WordPress has addon features (hacks) that allow you to do almost whatever you want with a blog. You can make it so that a user has to login to view your posts and you can only display certain posts to certain people. Example: You can make general WordPress posts public but have private posts that require people to login first before they can read them.

Since WordPress is free, I would suggest downloading it and playing around with it for at least 14 days before you decide on staying with Blogger or WordPress. Don't forget to check out the WordPress hack section. Other self install blog software I like: TextPattern (open source) and MovableType (they have a free, unsupported version you can download).

    Thanks to all of you!

I have been happy with Blogger, but since WP is free, I might as well download it and play around.

Blogger may turn out to be better, but so may WP. Guess I'll never know unless I download it and play around for a few weeks.

    Thanks again

Not true anymore right? Or are you suggesting WP is easier. My blogger blog is at its own domain.

It's been at least a year and a half since I even looked at blogger. I have no idea what options are available for it currently.

There are TONS of plugins that will work with wordpress. I am sure that popular Blogger plugins are ported to wordpress. I feel that wordpress is MUCH more customizable...but that's just me. You can use wordpress for more that just a blog.

I have one Wordpress blog and 7 Blogger blogs. I am trying to set up a blog on either WP or Blogger to receive automatic RSS feeds but can't seem to get it working. When it comes to RSS I am a Noobie.

What I am chasing is a step-by-step procude to set it up.

Any help with this would be very welcome. If successful, may even be worth some payment!!!

    Regards,

    Col :)

I just deleted al my blogger blogs and went for Wordpress on my own domains.
As for Google indexing and findability, WordPress out ranks blogspot by far!
So if you are really going for good blogs, I sugget go for WordPress.
