Hey everyone, for the last 3 months, i've been submitting articles and blog commenting in order to get some backlinks for a website of mine that I have been trying to get to number 1 spot. Currently its at #4, I've managed to gain over 300 backlinks more then the person holding number 1 spot, I have not moved up passed #4 and it doesn't look like it wants to budge. How do I move up to #1? I thought the rankings are somewhat determined by the how many websites are pointing to another. Any ideas?
well you are right - sort of. It also depends on how old the domain is at #1 spot this has more weightage than newer domains. Then the type of links are important fro example if you have alot of links from sites that are not linked to your niche but they have they will stay higher than you. You have to get specific links on sites for the smae topic as yours, what I find works well is go to site explorer on yahoo and type in the domain of the #1 spot holder and see where they get their links from, find out the Page Rank and you try to get more links from similar sites, then you will site above them. Article submisions work like a dream for me so I cant understand the problem - are they all unique or same article? Unique works best. Have you published a Press Release on prlog this should boost you up too. One thing you havent said is how old the domain is - if it is 3 months old keep building links and you will win the battle.
the PR is not only affected by backlink, it also depend on age, how regularly you update your site, the traffic to your site. and also backlink from higher PR is better than low PR site. But keep in mind that SEO is not only depend on backlinks good luck
1. You can create guest posts and submit those on relevant blogs. 2. You can analyze the links your competitors have and see if there are some 'great' links out there.
Thanks for the answers, I'll keep doing what I'm doing and wait for the domain to get older. I also noticed something I should of noticed a while ago. In my articles and so on, I've been backlinking to my site in the http://www. format when in reality, in the general settings of my website the WordPress address (URL) and Blog address (URL) do not have the WWW. will this make a difference??? Should I switch it to www. in my general settings? If I do that, will the backlinks to specific posts not work anymore because of the change?
Does anybody know if that makes a difference or not? My backlinks are pointing to http://www.domain But my blog settings are set without the www. its http://domain Thanks in advance
It doesn't matter whether you use www or not, but it DOES matter if you allow both. You should have your site be accessible from either www.mysite.com or mysite.com, but not both. Edit your .htaccess file if you find this to be the case.
Check the keywords you are using-the most searched keywords change from time to time. Do not make a lot changes at once; that annoys Google. Clare1956
Yes, it makes a big difference if your website is opening for both www. (http://www.domain.com) and without www. (http://domain.com) Google will consider both as different domains and it will also create duplicate content issues (both urls will have same content) It is important to redirect your website from http://domain.com to http://www.domain.com if you'reusing both
300 links is an incredibly small number, especially if a large percentage of them are blog comments (close to worthless individually, although they add up over time) Have you done any: Profile link building? Video? Podcast? Press Release?
The reasons why your site is not ranking inspite of having more links than your competition could be either of these following 1. Your link might be of LOW PR. or 2. Your off page optimization might be that well optimized, or 3.Your competior's site must be much older than yours. 4. you have not used only articles and blog commenting for your backlink. try to add variety by doing profile backlink, press release, videos, RSS, etc
