something fishy is happening at with domains. I checked a domain for a client and at first it was available, so I notified him. however, the domain was taken a couple of days later. I setup a backorder for the domain (with my private label at wildwestdomains.com) so I could catch it when the domain expired. Then the domain was available one week later! I got it at the higher price for the backorder. I have seen this happen with some more domains, altough I don't buy them. Is this some kind of fraud so people buys domains that become available all of a sudden, thus creating the sensation that you got a "just expired" domain?
Can't remember what its called, but there are a few companies who register domains for a week to check traffic to them then they are available again. This happened to the .com of one of my co.uk sites, as much as i remember it was a Dutch person who had registered it.
It's called "domain tasting". Or "domain kiting" as Go Daddy's Bob Parsons has termed it. Registrars are charged $6 for every .com registration, renewal, and transfer they accept within their systems. But they have a 120-hour window to have the .com domain name cancelled and be issued a refund for it. It's actually been discussed since last year. It's this year that more and more people are finally becoming aware of this issue. Is it fraud? I guess it depends on the intent behind it, but we're not exactly mind readers. Currently there's no "law" addressing this either. But the registrars and ICANN themselves are aware of this, and are still tackling it whenever time allows.

Pretty interesting. I remember enom resellers had the option of deleting domain in 2-3 days of registration. is it still working? if so we can do this domain tasting.
this "domain tasting" has "fraud" all over it. more to the case: the domain I was registering was not registered before, so my impression is that somebody was checking domain searches and is deciding to buy domains based on that. Imagine I could know what people are searching for, and then buying those domains before you make up your mind.
