Lots more information coming out recently about facebook and how they dont give a damn about privacy, how zuck in the early days referred to his early users as dumb**cks for trusting him with their personal information and how freely they share your information in return for money from large companies. So why do you trust them? A lot of people pretty much publish most of the things that they do in their life there.
I don't trust them now, here's how to lock things down How To Put Facebook On A Privacy Lockdown (not my site, found it on stumble)
I do not trust them, I only put things on my page that would normally be found anyways, like my email - but no address or phone number or even a lot of pictures.
I've never published anything "private" on Facebook. I barely even use it on a personal level. Here's a video of Leo Laporte deleting his FB account, and a few gotchas to keep in mind: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_y7mMlKgjY
Its secure from hackerz but what if the facebook people sell it ?? which i assume they are by some peoples comments
I do not leave personal information such as SSN number, ID scan or phone number, only thing that is personal there about me is my real name.
i really don't trust them with my info! i actually create a profile but also a "limited profile" where i can hide lots of information from my facebook account for people that are not best friends and of course... never put phone number on it.
I dont trust any online organizations to be honest. I use facebook, but dont put any personal and private information online. Everything you put online is a free for all to use and abuse. Facebook is having many privacy issues at the moment so its best to stay away from posting information on facebook.
I don't trust and publish any private information on any social media sites. I am using facebook only publish my website information. Which i want to publish.
Its interesting to read each of your replies to this. I just read that even Matt Cutts has stopped using it, others too, its all becomming rather serious now and apparently searches for how to leave facebook are rising, as in deleting accounts, apparently accounts only become disabled though. I think even without this alarming disregard for privacy that facebook has a limited amount of life left in it anyway, because all its doing is offering some basic features that can be found online anyway, communicating with friends, sharing photos etc. While the information is worth a lot to facebook so that they can pass it on (which they are) theres that old problem for them that people get bored quickly, it loses its novelty element and apparently some of the info has been less useful for the companies investing big bucks for that info. Something to get people thinking, i myself have been able to know what our nextdoor neighbour has planned for their week, i know of old school friends that are going through relationship breakups, the full and gory details of a local young man that was convicted for a sex crime (the stuff that they dont publish in the local paper) i know the locations of people ive not seen for about 18 years, lol, and a whole lot more and i know all this without even adding one of those people to my friends list. So if its that easy for me to have a look in (being nosy of course) then its worrying to think how much more is available.
I never put up any sensitive or vital information about myself online, you should also do the same. Never put something online that you might regret later on so play it safe.
I don't trust Facebook. I use it, but I only put information on there that I actually WANT to share with the world.
