I was wondering if anyone would be willing to offer any suggestions for my forum as far as what I should do to increase traffic.

I agree with what others have recommended. There are many ways to help increase traffic to a site and in your case your forum. You also have to consider your forum niche... AS someone already said the are free and paid marketing methods. Among the free methods are some of the tactics used in SEO. You also need to send out email marketing campaigns to people who have opted in and that are within your forum niche.

 

look for good internet marketers to market your website, it will increase the traffic to your web. Note: if you have no content in your web, increasing traffic to your web will make no difference.

 

For forums, it's very easy to get traffic, but it is not easy to foster growth in your community without motivation to post. This could be a thread that grabs the interest of your user and sparks a response in them, to a prize giveaway for posting / referring users to your message board.

Well this might help you when you are choosing keywords, take a keyword and type it into google.com, click on the first site that comes up and copy the url. Now use any link checker to see how many back links that website has from other sites. If this site has alot of backlinks it might be hard to rank high in the search engines for that keyword.

 

One way to increase traffic to your website is to advertise it on related sites such as blogs, relating to the same niche, or even relevant forums.

 

Update and add orginal content of your website on a regular basis is one of the effective ways.
