Somebody help me with this dilemma. Does the search engines treat http://www.domain.com and http://domain.com any differently? What bout changing the blog url in wordpress admin page>settings>general. What effect does it have if you change the url to include www Please help
Thanks very much for your response Stevecane. I have however come across a page by google which even complicated it more but at least it is a good place to start. Here it is: http://www.google.com/webmasters/checklist/
I questioned the same stuff about this a few weeks ago because i changed my domain fron non www- to www., here are the thread: 1. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1781700 2. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1797823
You must have one version of ur blog www is better than non www. The wp option which u wrote above is ok though u need to set www version in .htaccess file so user n robots can only access www or non www version by default.
It doesn't matter. More important things to worry about. If you experiment and do both for an equal amount of time and study the results, you will find that you have just wasted time doing a worthless experiment that doesn't change one thing either way.
I think search engines will find and index your domain and its contents whether it is www or non-www. So in that sense it does not matter. But when you think about normal web surfers, i am pretty sure the vast majority will start with www when they need to type your url. So when they see ur domain somewhere on the web as www.yourdomain.com then it will look very familiar to them...
Depends on what kind of site you'd like to build. Think about it in terms of marketing and the specific target you are aiming to. What would they prefer? The good old fashioned www.xyz.com or the xyz.com version? Whatever option you choose, make sure however that both work and redirect to your preferred option.
