I don't think this is really a theory more like a description of how a well designed site will function.

Having text links to your pages inside relevant text sections will be far better than just links stuck anywhere on the page.

Search engines are always saying they reward natural linking so its up to them to spot the patterns and reward accordingly.

Yeah it isn't impossible - The old content is there, and new content is being processed all of the time.

The targets are realistic as (in the UK) the sites' (plural and possessive) competitors have good but not great sites.

Our targets are a realistic, but I think the timeframes might not reflect the fact that we are trying to get new websites up onto the 1st page.

Also - When these sites were 1st across 35 key phrases the company that ran them had mutliple pages full of links (blah blah blah - all the things that you'd get away with before!) and this pushed the rankings up, when they were re-indexed the rankings dropped and I think that one of the sites was removed entirely. Post that a re-inclusion request was sent out after the re-work was done... but the site is showing little or no recovery.

The old firm has recently offered a way of increasing links through a 3rd party site, like the old pay for links but 1 step removed (companyA creates as link to companyB, b links to C, C links to A - or something) which smells very grey to me. IMHO Google and the others all like links to be relevant and I fail to see how the idea helps.

sry for the rant... but I'm new to SEO and spend alot of time reading blogs and fora with answers that may or may not be entirely factual.

    Which info, and what theory?

The first statement is that any content below the main domain root folder, is treated as being part of it, so any new content added is automatically accepted as Kosher.

Second Paragraph is just the basis of on topic linking, sites that carry the same or semantically linked content.

Triangular linking is far from new, and the algo's (well Yahoo anyhow) can detect it. I always find it odd that Google relies far more heavily on links that Yahoo, yet Y! is streets ahead at discovering link abuse

I remember reading at Matt Cutts' blog that Google can very easily identify triangular links and other types of link exchanges. I'll try to find the post again...

It never ceases to amaze me that individuals think they can outwit the combined efforts of over 100 phd's, and some very web savvy engineers ;)

Sorry Welsh Guy, but you know as well as I that (some) people will try anything to get ahead. As I get older I get more cynical about this.
If they think that they have come up with a new fangled way of beating the Search Engines, then they'll try it... even if, as you say, the new tricks are the old ones.

Adwords and organic search results are totally unrelated. Many will say they are, and within that group will be one group who say they harm your rankings (because they experienced it) and another group that say they HELP your rankings (because they experienced that also).

FACT: Google have publicly stated that organic and paid results are unrelated directly. By unrelated directly, I mean that there might be a connection in as much as the information such as lexicons built up from paid results might be used within the natural algo lexicons. but there is no DIRECT link.

    Hi Old Welsh Guy.,
I meant these advantages., (not directly effecting/relating to organic rank manipulations)

When one of our portal (newly established) was banned because of 302 hijacks by several sites (i think our established competitors), we get good support from them .,

You also get a Dedicated Google rep helping you in setting the campaign., Providing you the keywords., managing the accounts.,

Also they are always friendly in providing suggestions

    Rgds.,
Sarathy.s (Submitting our sites to your directory, ;) pls approve them :) )
( I meant this for big budget campaigns)

PS: Old Welsh Guy, sorry i submitted my homepage to your directory., i will submit my inner links now)
