can anyone tell me how to tell if a website is banned by google ? i have seen the traffic drop dramatically for a website of mine and the main page isn't in google index, while there are 500 pages in index of google, not just the main page even the page rank is 4 for the main page but the page isn't indexed. can anyone advice ??
How old is the sight? If it is a new site you may just be hitting a data center that has older info. I had a site that was barely online at time of last pagerank update that went to pagerank four. It has disappeared as well. Shannon
If you get a result for site:yourdomain.com then you're not banned, although you might have some penalty.
its a year old website and has been indexed heavily in past and i think exam was right when he said some kind of penalty could be reason
One way to check for sure is to just e-mail them. I haven't done this in a while, but last time I did they had two different responses; 1 that they sent to banned sites and 1 that they sent to "not-banned" sites. Both e-mails said "we do not review sites on an individual basis" but you could tell from the tone and content if your site was banned.
the real question is, how do you ban other sites competing with yours. That's a nasty one though (I don't have the guts to get into a website war)
