How long until you're indexed on Google?

I made my first site several days ago. I submitted it to google via the webmaster tools earlier today, but it still isn't indexed by google. How long does it usually take? Thanks.

If it's a brand new domain, it can take a week or two.
Just work on building backlinks, and submit it to all your social media accounts and you'll be indexed soon.

Agreed, keep posting and add it to your signature. Indexing can take a few weeks, even when building backlinks.

It depends on what you use, using Google Webmaster they say can take a week to forever. I personally can get brand new sites (Just bought domain) ranked in 20 hours though.

Thank you both for the quick reply. Once I hit 10 posts I will add it to my signature (that's the requirement on the forum). Are the links on DP nofollow?

Also, when you say social media accounts, you mean simply adding the link to my facebook account, etc? Definite newbie here :)

Some it takes longer for new domains...I have seen few sites indexing taken more then 4 weeks...to be very specific back links works in most of cases if the domain in not any blacklist.
    Happy SEO :)

Actually submitting your site to Google will make getting indexed take longer. Backlinks from sites like ezine article or yahoo answers that get crawled repeatedly throughout the day are the fastest way to get indexed.

Yeah, submitting a sitemap via webmaster tools is notoriously slow for indexing pages. When the other posters say social media accounts they are talking about getting backlinks from sites like Digg, Stumbleupon, Reddit, Jumptags, Facebook, Myspace, etc etc. These sites are crawled often by Google so links from there get picked up quickly (and consequently those pages linked to get indexed quickly). I've never had a site take longer than 48 hours to be indexed. I use a service called Onlywire that submits to several social bookmarking sites at once (after you sign up for accounts at each one to get started). If that doesn't interest you, then I'd recommend Digg, Stumbleupon, and Jumptags - those seem to be where Google usually finds my sites first.

    Hi, SMedia

Search engine submission would not guarantee a prompt indexing. I would like to recommend you to build quality backlinks from high PR (above 6) sources or put your homepage links in your tweets for speedy indexing purpose. :)

    Have a nice day,

It is depends on how good your SEO. If your domain is totally new and you do nothing by just submit the URL, it takes not more than 1 month
However, if you are doing some link building job, it can be indexed within a day

Usually it takes 2-3 days via Google webmaster tools. Otherwise Just Try social Bookmarking and Add your Link here on DP signature in meantime this will help you alot.

You have brand new site so it will take time 4 to 5 weeks. Make sure don't copy content for anywhere and focus on social media, this is the best way to promote new site......

See, if you are unique with your content and not copied any part of it or rewritten any part of your content - you are most likely to be index within 24hrs and if you are not then just modify your content - or submit to various directories and article directories and this will help too in getting your site indexed.

    Hope it helps...
