Directory submission can be very effective but you should throw in a mix of different link building techniques. Try also social medium, forum posts, blog comments. Your goal should be to attract organic links.

Yes this is effective - it may not prove good backlinking options but it works good for traffic... you get instant traffic boost for your website when you submit

It's useful if you do it right. Stay away from the spammy stuff, spend more time with the higher-quality directories. It's worth paying money for, imho.

Yes they are effective and there are a source of information, traffic and back links, just make sure you submit your web site link to decent directories, follow each directory submission guide carefully in order for your web site link to be accepted and finally make sure you build back links to your web site in a correct manner.

Yes, it’s effective and the quality of links depend on the quality of the website or web page which is coming from. Although your website’s ranking will not be affected if some bakclinks are coming from bad neighborhood or spam directories, try to save time, effort and money by choosing quality web directories.

Regarding 50 backlinks, well it depends upon your budget for paid directories, submitting your website to free directories will take time and don’t focus on web directories alone, acquire quality backlinks from other websites as well.

Effective when you choose the high ranking directory and submit only related keywords niche for your websites. If not, then I do not think it will be good for traffic.

I always believe in getting quality targetted traffic rather than huge unrelated traffic.

Agreed, directories, which are not good or dead, are of no use, rather you should try to submit your website, only to those directories, which are active and are of high quality, and those which can deliver traffic to your website....
Submitting websites in dead directories is rather a waste of time....

Yes directory submission has major benefits. But for that use high PR directories like yahoo, dmoz.

I would like to suggest Article submission. It is more effective than directory submission as you can add 2-3 links in resource box and this will also derive traffic to your site.

Directory submissions are a great weapon to gain a better ranking in the major search engines. But you have to do it right. Unique content with every submission, DF directories etc etc. Don't expect to much organic visitors from the directories itself, but more organic visitors because of the better serps.

Regarding your post, sure article submissions are good also, but a backlink is a backlinks somewhere if its one, or 1000 in a article G only counts one from that source.

Besides that, why rewrite your 400 words article 100 times when you can do it another way. Work smarter, not HARDER.

Using only one method for building links is akin to suicide. Directory submissions are very effective for moderately competitive keywords.

I believe the answer is no. About three years ago I submitted a couple of sites to many, many free directories. None of those backlinks now show up in google. zero. I still submit to directories from time to time but I am more discerning.

If you want to submit directories manually, then it is best to choose the best ones instead of submitting to every single one as some directories are totally useless and waste of time.

Best of all, try to be more targetted when you are submitting as it will improve your chance. :)

Directory submission is still effective I've been doing directory submission to optimize my website. We just have to follow the rules implemented in the directory for the admin to approved the submitted link.
