I have a site with few number of back links and i just want to know whether there is a direct connection between the number of back links and calculation of Google PR.... Does a site with good number of back links can have a good PR in the next update??
Daniel, By backlinks, I am guessing you mean incoming links from other websites. Google PR is proprietary and nobody knows for sure, but backlinks are part of the equation. Everyone knows backlinks are vital to good search engine ranking. With PR it seems to me that backlinks alone don't do it. You need backlinks with PR themselves to provide you PR. It also seems that traffic is a direct (or possibly indirect) factor in PR.

The number of links don't matter all that much. Your site can get a PR8/9 if you get one link from google homepage ;-)

Keep in mind, that the entire Google Algorithm was originally founded on the concept of linking. Googles first criteria was a basic "voting" system and the way you voted for a site was by linking to them. It has evolved greatly today (reciprocal linking, no follow tagging, etc..) but Googles algorithm foundation is still built on linking. So yes, backlinks have a tremendous impact on Page Rank.

As each Backlink is considered as a vote to your site and so every vote from high PR, relevant and authority sites is considered to have higher value in Google Algo. The higher the number of backlink the higher your chances to rank high on search engines as well, and the higher the number of backlinks with high PR, then it will have higher chances for your site to gain High PR as well.
Yeas backlinks matter. However I was able to get PR4 on a new site with just a few backlinks. Thought it was a few month ago.
